North, that is too funny you mention that. Mike and I finished up the day by looking at the tail light bezels and he says "I will open up those holes a little to straighten up those bezels".

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.

Every single 69 GTO had that issue, I guess the stamping or piercing at the factory was off spec

It has all original sheet metal, with one re-paint, and all other trim looks great, it's just the bezels that pitted.

I notice that you have no wheel opening trim. Is that just your preference?

I was thinking the same thing about the trunk lid alignment with the quarters. I wish mine fit like that. I've had three different trunk lids and they all fit the same. Since it has the original quarters, I have to believe that mine was out of alignment from the factory.

So may be not that crazy but look at some of this factory work. The passenger side quarter where it met the tail light panel look just as ugly.

This is the driver side for comparison.

Default Correction

Thought I would post a picture of the correct JA wheel code. It had been awhile since I looked at the codes and looked in the wrong spot, they look very similar

March 6, 1968 seems like a very early wheel for a 1969 car. Are these the original wheels? What is the build week of the car? Interesting.

Another spot I see issues on 69's is the left fender hood interface. Every second car has more "bow" to the hood than the fender. Not sure if the fender is too flat or the opposite. It's not related to kinking issues, it the whole length that has a higher arch than the fender.

Maybe it was a tooling deterioration issue.

Charles,
Thanks for asking about my progress. We are in the process of finishing the front end sheet metal and endura bumper. I am going to use a proven method for the bumper repair that Paul at Fast Restorations has shared with us here on the board. I sandblasted the bumper this last week and ordered some epoxy primer from SPI. Mike worked on the fenders this weekend.
I ordered a 1/2" SS fuel line to replace the 3/8" SS line I had installed. With the engine build I plan on using I feel I need the 1/2 line. Any way ordered it from Inline Tube. Got it last week and they sent me one for a 70. Figured it out when I went to install and laid it next to the 3/8" line. There are two 70 1/2" lines in the picture becuase I had one for my 70 already.
Called the guys at Inline Tube and they are sending me the correct line. Very, very nice people to work with.

Default "Floor on the floor and a nut behind the wheel."

This is what my Grandma would proudly tell people about her car.
Here is a picture of the restored 4spd.

Looking good!! Wish mine was a 4 speed! All of my cars are autos except for the 06 GTO, it has the 6 speed in it. Thanks for the up-date and the pics. I am saving your pics for future reference.

Another good day in the shop! Mike worked on the fenders again. I got to help alot when it came to metal work but the bondo is another story.
I got my new 1/2" fuel line and installed it today. Pulled out my headlight and grill parts after that. I got my headlight bases and buckets powder coated awhile ago and have been meaning to order all the new fastner parts and clips etc. Also had my headlight bezals chromed a few years ago, not cheap about $300 iirc
I started by cleaning the headlight retaining rings by washing and followed by steel whool. Then cleaned a nice set of T-3 headlights. Next took the mounting screws and cleaned in my blast cabinet and cooked them in zinc phosphate. They turned out great but the process on just the screws took about 30-40 min.

Here is what everything else looks like. I took apart the grills and think I am going to have the chrome off of them rechromed as well to match the quality of the bezals. Worked about 6 hrs today and thats all i got done but I definatly work at a nice casual pace in my shop most the time, I work hard enough at my paying job! Any way going to order parts monday and put all together soon.

Those look very nice indeed....It's those little details that will really make the car stand out.
