Reverse engineered is the same as copy isn't it? I thought that what you were doing to make a billet version of the Pontiac block...?? After reading the post about probing the ports to make a program for the cv385 heads i figured......

Yes you could ''copy'' any block, but like Bill said he does have factory prints. A pontiac block can only look one basic way with slight differences obviously depending on whats added design wise.
Hell if it was me I'd just copy a 301 block and make the needed design changes, being a short deck block it will probably be the cheapest block to ''copy'' depending on what sizes you can get the billet cores.

... well, for something like a block, you can "Reverse Engineer" things like motor mount holes, oil pan holes etc, but the core layout of a block (bore centers, deck height, cam tunnel, lifter bores, etc.) really need to be drawn up in CAD this way you are not "Reverse Engineering" any variance of a casting into a clean CAD design block ... ... and our Billet Block will have a 68-70mm camshaft in it anyways with a raised position also ... |

I got ya! Im certainly not educated on the equipment you are using and made an assumption. Any idea on price for a block?

... well, it's a bit early for me to start quoting a price just yet, but i will tell you it's going to be very competitively priced ... ... once we have a renboard proto-type machined, we'll have a much better idea as to the final cost ... ... and i will be posting pictures of it when it's ready, it should be quite a sight with all of it's options and the billet-cage with the priority main oiling upgrade ... ... i honestly lose sleep over the thought of completing this block ... |

Think you said "1/2" ceramic ball. The system I saw in action used a sapphire ball on the order of 0.080" dia. Various ball sizes on that order could be used. Is that capability that you own? Would be stunning to hear you could measure BORE runouts in CYLs & journals. |

... yes, we can do all of that type of work with the Master3DGage, it has many different style probes also, the one i described is just the one we use for point clouding a port ... ... but this CMM is the most accurate system on the market in it's class (.0002) means we can measure just about whatever we can reach with the arm, bores, decks, cam tunnel, lifter bores, camshafts, crankshafts, pistons, etc ... |

It is interesting that they took a deep skirted block, the FE Ford and made the billet aluminum version a shallow skirt block like a SBC without the cross bolts and all the features that made a stock FE such a stout piece? That part I don't get. Maybe they had a "Billet Cage" in mind. Cool video though.
