Nitto and Falken are the only manufacturers of 275/50-17's that I know of (unless someone else has brought out this size recently). I've been running them on my truck for years. Nitto NT450 255/50-17 fr & 275/50-17 rr. Not the greatest performance tires (I run drag radials 275/60-15 at the track), buit they have held up well over the years. I am no fan of Falken tires.

I bought a set of the 17x8"s from YearOne today at the Moultrie Swap meet. But, they have the 4 1/4" backspacing. Will there be any problem mounting these on a 67 GTO? I don't have tires yet so, if these wheels will work what tires should I use?

I don't know the answer about the tires but I just wonder about the 4.25 BS, is that what they advertised or did you measure that?

They are advertised as 4.5" back spacing but the first run were tooled wrong and ended up with a 4.25 backspacing. The correct ones will be available this coming spring. I took these back to Year One today and got a refund. I told them I wanted to wait until the 4.5" backspaced ones come out.

The 555 and the 450 are available in a 255/50/17 (27.1" tall). Not all of us are looking for short tires (on the rear anyway)... ![]() These are the same diameter as my current 255/60/15's - and I'm not looking for shorter tires with my 461 with 3.42 gears. I've been looking at possibly switching to 17's and right now my only tire options (I want redlines) are the NT 450 and 555. The 450 has the sizes that come closest to my current setup - that I like - with 225/50/17 (235/60/15) at 26" and 255/50/17 (255/60/15) at 27". If I go with the 555's, I can still get my 255/50/17 for the rear, but on the front if I want 26" tire height I need to go to a 255/45/17 - and I don't know if I can stuff that under a '64 GTO. 245/45/17 might work - a little shorter (25.7) but wider than my 235/60/15. Currently my tire clearance is REAL tight. My current rims are 15x7" factory with 4.25" BS - so maybe that extra .25" would allow the wider 17's... |

I would look at the tires that come on BMW SUVs. They appear to have some sidewall to them in 17, 18, and 19 inch wheels, 26 to 28 inches tall.

It seems obvious to me that the market is better for the earlier style wheel than the one they are currently producing.

Moving back to the 17" Rally II's, for anyone who is running them, what brakes are you running with them? I'm trying to go with big brakes but I am concerned I won't be able to fit 13" rotors under them.

If you get those wheels mounted you gotta take some pics! Iv'e been looking forward to seeing these wheels on a 67' GTO. Are you going with a taller sidewall? I definitely would. I think the short wall 40 series stuff looks good on the firebirds but strange on the big cars.

So has anyone run the Year One RallyII with larger brakes? I'm finding conflicting info on the subject. I think I would want to go with the 17x8 front, 17x9 rear on my 67 firebird and I want to use C5 brakes with Kore3 parts. Any input on this? Has anyone who has these wheels printed out the template on Kore3's website to see how much clearance there is?
If not, (and I know this might be a lot to ask) can someone who has them print out the template and check? I'm sure it would help out a lot of people looking at these wheels. |

One option I come up with was a 1LE brake swap, but that involved swapping over the b-body spindle. I haven't ruled it out yet, I'm just seeing where i can get my brakes with the addition of rear disk and better pads all around.

I saw last month that Nitto has added a size to their NT450 line ('entry level high performance') which would fit some cars here...
275/50R17 27.8" diameter, 11.0 wide 255/50R17 27.1" diameter, 10.1 wide 225/50R17 25.9" diameter, 9.0 wide It may not be the best of the best tires out there, but the 275/9" rear and 225/8" front would scratch my itch pretty well..... I'm not sure that I would want to run a 255/50 in front. Mike

The 1le brake swap is very nice, cheap, and pretty easy to do. I did it about 6 years ago. Big car spindles from Scarebird as he puts a taper in the ball joint holes so you can run stock joints.

Do you have any links on the swap? Been searching around and have not found much yet. Thanks
