If you guys like the music for Bullitt and Cool Hand Luke, Dirty Harry films, Tango or the theme for Mission Impossible or Mannix you are listening to one of my favorite types of music composed and conducted by Lalo Schifrin.

Cool Hand Luke and Bullitt. Great combo. Be sure to count how many times the same hubcap falls off that black charger, and how often you see the same VW beetle in that chase scene

It's a 390, but why would would you double clutch a synchro box. Those cars were prepped for going around corners so why didn't the mustang get a posi., especially with a stick and a 390. Along with going by a VW, they go by a Tempest or LeMans and a GTO twice. When they do the power slide getting onto the major HWY on-ramp for the final scene the charger goes first there is no car behind him, a quick edit on the mustang coming into the turn and no car in front of him except the charger after the mustang is accelerating out of the turn a mysterious I think chevy wagon is in-between them. Also on the major hwy in the final scene where the charger is passing on the oncoming traffic you hear it's engine downshift in a pedal to the metal to get by....problem is both the drivers hands are on the steering wheel and the charger was a four speed too. Oh well maybe the shotgun guy did the shifting as well as loading.
I don't understand how McQueen let those things slip being a car guy and racer. At that time in his career he controlled much of what was done. The film was made by McQueen's own Solar Productions Company.

Well, I enjoyed it the first I saw it, in a theater. There were three girls sitting in the row ahead of me and it was fun seeing them move forward and back for the jumps. They were doing it unconsciously.

I still enjoy it, despite its faults, and no matter how often they're pointed out me.

They had to back pedal the charger in that movie and put skinny tires on it so it wouldn't embarass the hell out of the mustang. Love that movie!

What size engines did they put in those cars for the movie? 440 and 390?

Two identical 1968 325 hp 390 V8 (325 hp) four-speed Mustangs, and two matching 375 hp 440 Magnum V8-powered four-speed Dodge Chargers were used in the Bullitt chase sequence. So that the Mustang could run more easily with the two brawnier Chargers, Hollywood engineer Max Balchowsky installed a racing cam on both Fords, milled the heads, and modified the ignition and carburetion systems. The engines in both Chargers were left largely unmodified, but the suspensions were mildly upgraded to cope with the demands of the stunt work. Suspensions of all four cars were modified for improved strength, handling, and control. One Mustang and one Charger were fitted with a full roll cage.

Ford also originally loaned two Galaxie sedans for the chase scenes, but the producers found the cars too heavy for the jumps over the hills of San Francisco, so they were replaced with Dodge Chargers
