I had a 1963 with the SD 4-barrel, which was entirely TOO LARGE for the street. Removed the SD 4-barrel and replaced it with a Carter AFB part number 9400s (400 CFM). The before and after were like driving two entirely different cars.

As far as reliability is concerned, while I feel the Rochester 2 barrel and 4 barrel carbs of this period are among the most reliable carbs ever built, sadly, cannot say the same for the 1 barrel (type B or BC). MAJOR design flaw that requires work every few years. The Chevrolet guys toss the Rochesters in favor of the Carter 1 barrel type YF.
