You're setting the bar real low, considering that women have been racing in NASCAR since 1949...

The Daytona Beach course (yes, they ran part of the race on the beach) in 1949 - Ethel Mobley finished 11th, Sara Christian finished 18th and Lois Smith finished 20th.

As already noted - Wanica is running the best equipment money can buy and has a top notch crew. This is her 4th season in NASCAR, she ran the full Nationwide series last year and 10 Cup races to help prepare her for this ride.

The last rookie to run the full season was Joey Logano. Joey was 18 years old at the start of the season and as a rookie won 1 race, had 3 top 5's and 7 top 10's.

Joey had a partial year of NASCAR experience as prior to getting his full time Cup ride - because of his age he wasn't allowed to drive until he turned 18 in May of the previous year. He ran 3 Cup races, 18 Nationwide races and 1 Truck race for a total of 22 races prior to his rookie season.

Based on the huge advantage of actual NASCAR racing experience Wanica has - she should be able to do much better than Joey.

But that ain't happening.

While watching that during the race: Anyone else think that it just might of been Tony looking good for sponsors on in-car camera, or was it just a co-winky dink? No matter, IMO Tonys obviously blessed with a ton of racing talent & experience. DaniCant - not so much.

Ahhh...here we go...the modern day marketing machine. Combine a webpage, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the next thing you know, you're a legend in your own mind.

03/07/13 - ‘First and only African-American female licensed by NASCAR’ has been overstating claims

Over the past year, Tia Norfleet has gotten significant publicity centered around being the only licensed African-American female NASCAR driver.

While the licensing part may be true -- Norfleet is licensed to participate in bottom tier races -- it's overstated at best and inaccurate at worst. According to this report from the New York Times, Norfleet has bought a license to compete at local and regional events -- licenses that are not regulated. However, she hasn't earned NASCAR approval to move up to one of its national touring series. Why? well, in her only sanctioned start last August she completed one lap before parking her car.

On her website, her racing schedule lists the 2013 Nationwide Series schedule, and there are pictures of her in a firesuit with the Nationwide Series logo. That's NASCAR's second-tier series. A series she obviously hasn't been approved for. NASCAR officials are uneasy over Norfleet's claims.

When Norfleet was contacted by the Times, she said she raced in nonsanctioned races "all the time." That's the equivalent response of calling yourself a professional baseball player and playing weekly in a Tuesday night beer league. It's also entirely possible there are other African-American women drivers competing at local events around the country. They just don't have a marketing campaign.

At first glance, her stats coming up through racing series seem impressive; she claims 37 wins in 52 starts. But this ESPNW article says those achievements were in a drag racing series.

Nascar officials said they were also concerned with questions about Norfleet’s legal record. Public records indicate that Tia Norfleet’s full name is Shauntia Latrice Norfleet, and that she has a criminal record in Virginia and Georgia. The charges on her criminal record include assault and drug related offenses.

Her father Bobby Norfleet (referred to as a race car legend by the Washington Post), made one start in NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series in 2000, and finished 32nd after starting 33rd and last.

Question What's in the Trunk

The real question is will her "bottom tier" pass that "first glance" by NASTCART? Seemed to have worked for DaniKant.

Note: Junior Johnson's moon-shine history could be used in her favor re decisions to disregard her previous drug charges. Talk about a marketing machine for her gender and race...regardless of if/how she runs... Again: refer to DaniKant's actual performance vs marketing. Or maybe a "Breaking Bad" type sponsor, such as: "Everything Goes Better with Meth" would justify her "one lap wonder" performance and we could hear Waltrip Bros on TV shows analyze ad nauseatingly "her great potential" to complete "several laps"...

Too bad Condoleezza Rice isn't driving. Given her success in her lifetime endeavors, she'd be one heck of a competitive race car driver! I'd pay to see that.

Lightbulb Empty Promises vs Actual Performance

Food for thought regarding the Reality of Danica's actual races won:

While talking to Erica Enders Dad at a local Houston Car Show setup last evening he said Erica had won over 100 races to date in her career. He said she had won either 108 or 180 races so far...I don't remember the actual number...but to me it really doesn't matter as ANY RACER who has won that many races - over100 - deserves the respect they have earned through hard work and proven results.

Danica has won how many races? Exactly. Re-read the above for comparison...

As I said before, Danica is a Nascar whore and the Waltrips are the pimps. I had been a Nascar fan for years, but I am about done with it. The fuss made over Danica has turned me away, and now the crap over what Hamlin said is so stupid. Ever since the COT's the racing has been about as boring as you can get. I use to record and watch all the races, and I would watch all the follow up shows and was on the Nascar website constantly. Not any more, they have lost me as an avid viewer

I still do record and watch all the races. DVR's make it so easy - just in case I can't watch it live.

In days gone by, I used to watch all the shows too. But that was before the internet exploded and watching those shows was the only way to stay informed. Now the shows are merely fluff pieces of info that I already learned about days ago.

I still prefer to be at the race live (assuming good seats). Why? Because then I can watch who and what I want. I don't have certain drivers jammed down my throat (Wanica...)...

I like the smell, the sound and the feel of live racing. On our bucket list is the 1 year lease of a motor home and making every race that year.

Funny how we left behind the Panica lovers in this thread. They and Panica have something in common.

Wanica currently resides in 30th place. Some here would contend that is "good" for a rookie.

Of course they don't want to acknowledge that Wanica's current main squeeze, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who has even less experience in Cup than Wanica, is currently in 11th place.

Also, you need to factor in that only 7 of drivers who are behind Wanica have run all three races when considering how good that 30th position really is.

With Bristol being the next race, I don't expect Wanica to move up in the standings on Sunday.
