Nice candidate for restoration. Looks like mostly original. Has had front end damage -- note the nose bird and later rad. support. Hope someone on the forum can pick it up.

There is a possibility that I used to own that car. If so, I sold it about 25 years ago to a guy in Western NC to buy another early T/A. If you look at the nose, it looks like it has a chrome emblem on it. I had a 71 and 72 T/A at the same time, and neither of those had a chrome emblem on the nose. I think my car had the original fenders, and the nose looked original except for the chrome emblem. I always wondered if it was a Pontiac mistake or if it had been replaced. I was living near Charlotte and I think I sold the car to a guy in Denver NC, so it was definitely sold in that area.

Hard to tell from the pics how bad the rust is, though -- surface or all the way through. I see it still has the JWs and rear alternator bracket, and some other things that seem to disappear on these cars through the years.

The nose on my Canadian car had that emblem on it too. No sign that it had been in a wreck, so I always wondered if it was original as well. Never been able to find solid proof though.

I just got this 70 trans am I'm listing to trade. This is a very rare car has the original ram-air III engine, 4-speed, 12 bolt 355 rear, and original interior. The car runs and drives but needs body work. Will trade for 65-66 GTO convertible (nice) or a 69-70 judge must be matching numbers car. I will only respond to replies with name and phone number. I have a good cash offer all ready I'm just looking to trade for one of the cars I just mentioned. |

I was waiting before I posted on this one. A friend of mine has been after this car for about a month or so. He told me Saturday the 3rd he had made a deal and was going to pick it on on Sunday. It's strange the Craigslist ad appeared on the 6th after he had the car back in Georgia. It has been wrecked in the front and has some wrong parts on it but has all the major matching parts. Sheet metal wise it will probable need rear quarters, tail panel, rear floor pans & trunk pan. He has another blue 70 that he has been collecting parts for and will use those body parts on this one.
I will probable see it this weekend and get some more info on the history. |

If he runs the VIN, I'd be curious to know if it's my old car. One clue would be an incorrect spare rim. I bent a rim on one of my other cars and used the spare out of that car.

poncho-mike, He said there is another JW spare in the trunk. The guy he got it from runs a wrecker & big truck repair business. I not sure on details but I think it was towed in like fifteen years ago and the owner never came back to get it. I'm not sure if it was wrecked at that time and the last owner put later fenders, core support and nose on ? Seems to me if you went to the trouble to fix it you wouldn't let it just rust away. The car has 100K and still runs & drives OK
FunctionalShaker, No he is not on the forum, I have suggested it to him but not much response. |

The white 70 T/A I owned was only the third car I bought after getting out of college, and I didn't understand a thing about numbers matching. The first car I bought was a 70 Formula automatic, and the second was a 71 T/A automatic.
I had no idea if the T/A was numbers match when I bought it, I just wanted a 4-spd. After that, I learned pretty quickly how to document a T/A. In retrospect, I don't think I knew the difference between 70-72 fenders at the time because all I owned was 70-72 cars. All I knew is my blue 71 T/A automatic didn't have an emblem on the nose. I sold it about 1985 to a guy in Western NC. If it was towed in 15 yrs ago, that leaves about 13 years of time in between. I'm pretty sure I used the spare out of that car, so it may not be mine. I also parted a 71 T/A automatic I bought in Cherryville NC around the same time. Mike |
