Default I need some opinions on a 70 Judge

Im restoring a 70 R/A III 4-speed Judge. Im the second owner of this car. It is a numbers matching car drivetrain wise but missing a few hard to find things mainly the carb. Since Im going frame off i was goint to get some of yall's opinions on some things. Is it okay to change the color of exterior or interior or both? From the factory it is pepper green with green interior. I don't like the green on green. I thought about keeping the exterior pepper green and going with either sandlewood interior or saddle. Then you have to worry about the stuff that is very hard to find like seatbelts, center console, steering wheel, ect in those colors. Then I thought about changing both colors. Going with just a black interior and something like a starlight black or orbit orange exterior. Black interior matches most all exterior colors and the parts that are mentioned above are easier to find in black. Is this a no no? Is this frowned upon? Does it drop the value of the car? Or is a green on green Judge more sought after than a orbit orange or say a polar white Judge? Any comments or opinions would be great. Thanks

...rule of thumb, you can decrease the final value of the car by the cost of a total correct color change

i can not tell you how much it will drop the value, but it will drop it. even a standard GTO that has a color change will drop, but being a Judge i will say it will drop it more. now if you are not planning on selling it, go for it, it is your car.
i have a 70 455 4 speed Ram Air that is that combo, Pepper green, green. sitting in line to be finished some day.

I have the same colour combination on a 70 4 speed Judge and was contemplating the same thing.

The Pepper Green exterior is nice but a black or sandalwood interior would have been preferred.

I have PepperGreen/Green interior Judge, bought in 04. Was very close to ordering black interior and then picking a different exterior color when I was ready to restore. Thought about storing the green interior.........glad I didn't.

Once restored, the green on green looks great, and I don't have to explain that my Orbit Judge is really green.

With matching numbers keep it original if you want to keep the value, but if you want to keep it, do what you want.

Other colors will be more popular on the street and at shows, when asked if mine is real Judge, I always answer that it wouldn't be green/green if it wasn't!! However, a peppergreen non judge looks great, it's a great color.

Pepper Green with green interior is a very nice and desirable color combo in my opinion.

Right now, your green interior is 43 years old, color is flat and not bright because of it's age.

Fresh green interior fabric is bright and looks great!

You will devalue your car by doing a color change.

If you want to sell it - expect low interest and low offers on Green Ram3 Judges .
Just ask the couple few guys on here who have been trying to sell theirs .
One is a 70 full blown concours frame off totally complete #s 4spd and can't get any action at 60.
Keep a watch on eBay and completed listings too.

Pepper Green isnt ugly - it just isnt popular or in the money.
Will get lots of compliments and well wishers - but few prospective buyers.

You'll get a higher price and a quicker sale on a good color change.
Won't lose a dime compared to staying green , and car will sell .

It sounds like the car will be put up for sale .
Probably should just sell it as-is and let someone else decide how much money to win or lose on the restoration and color .

This is good honest feedback. Check auction results, and let that speak the truth in real world money. I personally like the green on green, but have learned the hard way, green, and bown dont sell!!

Thanks for all the feedback. Im not looking to sell it anytime soon. Really want to keep it until I would need to sell it. Glago did you mean green with brown interior doesnt sell? Or green or brown exterior colored Judges wont sell? I dont mind the Pepper Green ext, just dont like all green interior. While I look at the value of 69-70 Judges alot, I have not seen alot of them in green. It will be a while before I have to decide. Thanks again for the feedback.

I think he meant green or brown exterior cars.

Got any pics of it?

Sandalwood definitely looks the best with 70 Pepper Green and the Judge stripes.

There was a 70 Judge for sale by a Charlotte NC dealer in that combo that looked so good , i even liked it . Was RK Motors iirc , they may still have it on their site .

No problem dye'ing the interior pieces as needed - most need a fresh coat no matter what color . And belts would be black on sandalwood or saddle combo .
Formula steering wheel - or wood wheel - works good too .

Can't go wrong with M21 3.90.

Not a fan of the dealership though - prone to hyperbole.

Nice combination with the sandalwood / pepper green for sure.

Full restoration on that one and a n $80,000.00 asking price but no longer listed. Do you know if it sold?

They had it consignment more than likely.

They had it on there 2 or 3 times with 79 or 80 B-i-N
One time it was offered to bid with reserve.
Went into the 40's iirc
Car had a few issues holding it up from top dog money .

The pics of the interior looks almost like a butter type color. I believe it to be the lighting. Or does it look that way all the time?

its on the beige side of off-white .

Have you searched on www.ultimategto.com website ?
Should be some pics there of 70 sandalwood interiors .

Rick Mahoney's 70 Red Judge Vert would be a good one to look at .
PY member Forrest has done a couple nice sandalwood interiors too , think both he did were dark green cars.

Here is a Black one.
