Iwanica's speed - 186.290

That's almost 6MPH slower than her main squeeze - who is also a rookie.

I found it interesting that they were discussing how difficult it must be for Stenhouse this season as he is used to knowing that he has a good chance to win each and every race he enters and this season that's not the case being a rookie in the Cup series.

Iwanica has never known that feeling of having a good chance to win in her entire car in automobile racing. In her case, the best feeling she has ever brought to a race track was that she had a good chance of finishing the race if she doesn't hit anything...

1 win in her entire automobile racing career - and that was a fuel mileage win dictated by her crew chief risking her running out of gas. Still a win - she didn't cheat - so she got the trophy - ONCE...

It must be real depressing knowing that you have a car capable of winning, a team capable of winning and then realizing that the only reason your car and team aren't in victory lane occasionally is because you are the driver.

According to Darrel Waltrips commenting about her "having to saw the wheel, the crew needs to do something about the setup on that car, she shouldn't have to do that..." I guess they missed the replay of Johnson et al having to "dirt track" their cars coming out of turns sideways onto the straights?

I wish I had driven laps around old Darlington. I imagine TMS, a track I have a lot of laps around, as a cross between Darlington and Charlotte. TMS is fast and not silky smooth like other tracks. Probably drives faster than any other track out there, but damn she sucks!

I often wonder what the crew REALLY thinks when they hear Danica giving nondescript, useless feedback on how her car handles. She lacks experience, she doesn't understand the mechanics of a suspension. That's why she's just not competitive, unless they happen upon a setup that she can drive.

When you hear Jimmie Johnson (or most other drivers) provide feedback, they state the car is tight in, loose on exit, isn't rotating in the corner, snapping loose, etc. Then the crew chief decides (sometimes with feedback from the driver) on wedge adjustments and/or tire pressures on the next stop.

With Danica, she just says, "car's loose"....and that's it. She doesn't adapt to the car's ever changing handling. An experienced driver will move up or down on the track and look for the best groove, change their braking pressure, change their acceleration point off a curve, or know when they should follow another car in turns to take air off the nose. Whatever it takes to keep them competitive until the next pit stop.

As for the weekend races, a double-barrel blast of Kyle Busch, winning both Nationwide and Sprint races. That ought to drive the Busch haters up a wall.

Part of this same topic, Stirling Moss, the legendary F1 driver, who is 83 years old now, got into trouble this week when he made this comment about women in F1.

"I think they have the strength but I don't know if they've got the mental aptitude to race hard, wheel-to-wheel."

Susie Wolff, who is hoping to compete in F1 and is currently a development driver for Williams, said, "I don't know where to start after hearing that interview. I've got a lot of respect for Sir Stirling and what he achieved but I think we're in a different generation. For Moss, it's unbelievable that a female would drive a Formula 1 car, which is fair enough. In the days they were racing, every time they stepped into a car, they were putting their life on the line. But F1 is much more technologically advanced, it's much safer than it was."

Only five women have ever raced in Formula One. Only one has scored a point. Italian Maria "Lella" Lombardi started 12 races in the 1970s and scored half a point with Brabham.

Well, this of course opened the floodgates, with female sports commentators calling Moss a sexist old dinosaur. On a Yahoo Sports TV segment, they had the usual man vs. women debate between two commentators. The women said that Moss is an idiot, and that he apparently is too stupid to realize women CAN race, and they CAN win. The male commentator said that Danica Patrick has only won 1 race in her career, and no other female driver has won an F1 or NASCAR race. The female commentator was furious, and said that Danica Patrick only has 1 win because she's a groundbreaker, she's new, and she's the ONLY female driver, otherwise women would have more wins.

Typical ignorance from Yahoo Sports, and those naive bloggers. This Yahoo female commentator had NO idea that there have been DOZENS of female drivers in NASCAR, Nationwide, F1, and Indycar over the decades.

Yes, I agree! Sir Stirling can say whatever he wants. His track record allows him to say what he feels, and to comment on what he's seen over the decades. Doesn't mean he thinks women are inferior mentally, just that he feels they aren't cut out for F1 racing. That's his opinion, and he should be allowed to say what he feels without having the entire weight of the overly politically correct world trying to belittle him and dismiss his accomplishments by calling him a "little old man that hates women".

Richard Petty got into trouble with a comment about female race drivers back when Danica came into the sport. Heck, even Don Garlits made a career out of heckling Shirley Muldowney. If these young people would look at video from these great drivers, and if they thought they were relevant nowadays, they'd probably write blogs about the "old dinosaurs" and sexist rantings of Petty and Garlits.

Non-race fans get furious when they hear comments like these from "old guys", but true racing fans understand, but may not agree, with their comments.

I'd love to see the look on a face of a 20-something politically correct female blogger when she sees an old clip of NASCAR from the 60's or 70's, when the winner would plant a big ol' kiss on the beauty queen for the event, who was usually wearing a bikini or 1-piece bathing suit!

As you mentioned in your next post, Iwanica is not a groundbreaker.

She wasn't the first female to run in NASCAR - that ground breaking was done by Sara Christian back in 1949.

She wasn't the first female to run an Indy car - that ground was broken by Janet Guthrie back in 1977.

She personally is new to Cup racing, but not new to NASCAR (4th year).

And most assuredly, she is not the ONLY female driver (the commentator didn't specify series - and we all know there are several female drivers currently in professional racing).

As to current female NASCAR drivers that have also won a race (not a NASCAR race, but a race with other NASCAR drivers in it) - Johanna Long (at the age of 18) won the 2010 Snowball Derby that had current and former NASCAR drivers competing in it...

If this commentator wants to see more female wins - she needs to drum up support for a female that actually has enough talent to win - and then get that girl a quality ride.

We don't need a pretty face (Dale Sr. and Richard Petty aren't the male model types), we need a female with real racing talent to have the opportunities that have been afforded Danica.
