'64 GP/th400 kickdown switch
Did the trans conversion years ago, but never got the kickdown figured out.
Last weekend, pulled a decent 389 from a 1966 Bonny and noticed the AFB carb and kickdown arrangement. Seems like the answer for the '64 cars with the th400 conversion. I assume the '65s had a similar set-up. I purchased a B & M kickdown switch, but never got it installed. The Lokar one looks bulkier but better than the B&M kick switch. Looking for opinions here and throwing large hunks of bait to SteveP on this one. Thanks in advance, Greg |

65/66 use the same switch and I think that Firebird may have used it until 67.
I have never had to do this but I would use an aftermarket switch over the original. How much are the aftermarkets? Can you adapt a 67-up switch that attaches to the gas pedal?

I went the after market route. I got this from B&M. I initially wanted to go stock, but decided against it. This was a very easy install and it works great. By the way, if you find you need the stock accelerator switch, I have a brand new, never installed one that I don't need.

under pedal mount
I have an under the pedal mount one, that I grabbed from a junker, but never messed with that either. Not sure I got everything, or that I want something under the gas pedal.
The pic makes me want to try the B&M one that I have here. Thanks for the replies, just kicking around ideas and hoping it spurs me into action to finally address the kickdown situation. Take care, Greg |

I have never seen a th-400 dshift switch actually under the gas pedal, the newer ones I have seen are tripped by the arm of the gas pedal up top. The problem with this arrangement on a older car that never had it is I doubt there will be holes in the throttle bracket to mount it easily. I have adjusted many of them that didn't have passing gear until absolutely matted by cutting a piece of fuel line and slipping it over the tube that hits gas pedal arm to hit it earlier. I have also bought small nitrous throttle switches that pulled from carb similar to stucky 2947 but was much smaller that worked good, Smitty
