Default 62 to 65 tranny crossmember swap question

I am changing the rear tranny crossmember on my 62 Catalina. I picked up a 65 crossmember. Will it bolt right in ? Do I need to get a different tranny mount for this crossmember ? I want to have everything I need before I take it to my guy doing the work. I know someone on here will have all the answers. I wish I could do it myself, but with a back injury from a bad wreck 2 years ago, I can't do what I used to. The reason I am changing it is to accommodate my new Long Branch headers and 2 1/2" exhaust. I already have everything else I need, mini starter, oil filter adapter. Just need to get an answer about the crossmember, so I won't look like a dummy to my mechanic. Thanks

Not sure, but have a question. What are you doing for down pipes? Did you get the pre-bent ones from RARE? Just curious as the straight down pipes will not work with a 65 crossmemeber very well.

Default archives

I would search the archives for the th400 swap into early 60's full size cars. That is where most of the trans crossmembers are exchanged.

We used a cross member from a 1970, full sized, Olds on mine. It was too short and we had to use some pieces of plate steel to lengthen the new cross member.

Good luck,
Greg

Other ? is what '65 car did you get it off of? There are 2 different styles, one for the boxed frame and one for the open. The open frame rail style does not have any bolt holes on it. I would suspect that it would be wider than the '62.

Yes I have the prebent header pipes. Not for sure about witch 65 it came from, it was stripped and repainted. I believe the guy just told me it came off a 1965 Catalina. Greg, I will check the archives and see what I find Thanks all.
