70-74 formula hood WIW
Looking for fair value on a 70-74 formula hood. Found asking prices from 100 (broken) to 1300 with the mean 450-700.
What have ones recently sold for? Found a hood that is very nice w/ no broken vents or corners but has holes for hood pins. Nothing a little glass work cant fix. Trying to see if its worth purchasing. |

These hoods are everywhere. Every single Formula made from 70-75 had one, and they are the sole surviving component from many a crushed/destroyed car.
I sold one (71-75) recently for $150. (Two broken vent slats, no broken corners) There is one locally (60 miles) for sale that is asking $65... it has broken vent slats. If it were around the corner I would buy it, but at 60 miles I feel it's not worth going to get. I would pay/sell the 70 only versions for more money. Solid (no broken slats or corners) hoods are worth around $300 I would say.

Most have SOME repair issues........but not much rust .......that's why they survived.

yes, these hoods are everywhere.... with broken vents and buggered pointy corners.
I would pay 4-5 bills and feel good for a nice unbroken one, and 8 bills for a virgin one sounds fair.....

Also, you will pay a premium for one that is not bowed in the middle. That is a rare hood, indeed.

I have been looking for one too. Every single one by me is $600 FIRM which seems a little steep for a hood that came on so many cars.

Also.....the cost of shipping one a a HUGE factor.....they really NEED to be crated to be safely shipped & that generally means that the cost of crating & shipping can easily exceed the selling price...

I had a perfect unwarped 74 hood with a beautiful underside that I took to the T/A nats two years in a row- this was back when the market was smoking hot..1st year I had $400 on it. 2nd year I dropped it to $300. Lot's of lookers but no buyers.
Later, I put it on ebay with a $250 opening bid and a $300 BIN." No shipping, pick up only" Sold and was picked up in less than 24 hours by a guy and his son from Alabama I think when selling one, i't comes down to several factors- condition, location, timing and a reasonable asking price. |
