I am going to Switch to the Ford Big Cap. Its the Cap-Adapt by MSD with the Phasable Rotor.

Still not sure why this needs to be Phased. Very basic setup. 6AL with Timing Computer.

But Looking at the Cap, its firing on the far edge corner of the CAP Pads.

You might ask if the adapter will work correctly for you?

I bought an 'Adapt-A-Cap' for my car about 10 years ago.
It would not work for adjusting the rotor.
MSD said it was only good for the chevy or clockwise rotating distributors.
They said at that time they did not make one for the Pontiac.
(or counter-clockwise)

Be sure to check the rotor to cap clearance with that deal, and keep an eye on it.

I've managed to phase pretty easy using a sharpie to mark the distributor, a "kit" can be made with an old cap by cutting a hole in it so you can see where the rotor is in regards to the cap, FWIW.

Hi John,

I just called MSD Tech Line, they said the Cap Adapt (Part No. 8420) will work on the Pontiac Pro Billet Distributor.

They also wanted me to Check the Following:

1) The 2 Wires from the 6AL to the Distributor need to be at least 6 inches away from any other wires. Making sure there is no Magnetic Interference.

2) After removing the Rotor look through the Square and Round Alignment Holes because they should be Directly aligned with a Reluctor.

3) Do Not use a Dial Back Timing Light or Digital Timing Light as they will give erratic readings Due to the MSD Ignition.

He did say that the Distributors are set up to spark on trailing edge.

i can attest to #3
wierd though... some people have problems, others don't
as for #1, i guess that is why i see them listing a shielded cable, which i have not tried at this time, but i don't think my wires were interfering with anything
also i think that is more prone on the analog boxes versus the digital ones?????

last time i check my rotor/cap, i was amazed at how centered the marking were
the last msd dist i had, was towards to the tail end
