For Me: The problem w some downloads vs CD, Vinyl, or Tape is the Dynamic Range loss of sound. Often the Highs and Lows are chopped off and compressed rendering the songs no longer Hi Fidelity sonically on any quality sound system.

Sounds ok though on iPad, cheap sound system, etc. Some of Pandora Channels can sound pretty good streaming on surround sound Hi-Fi too.

The takeaway: Some classic songs sound completely different analog vs digital vs streaming...

I'm an 80's, 90's metal fan - Anthrax, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc. I got into metal after listening to lots of classic rock as a kid. IMO the great songs were killed by the radio playing them 4 or 5 times a day. I love the heavy bluesy stuff from Zeppelin and AC/DC and I could never understand why so many of their stuff never gets heard on the radio. Also love me some CCR, Pink Floyd, Rush. Yeah I kinda go all over the place

The Flock (1st album is best - self titled)
Blodwyn Pig (Guitarist Mick Abrahams band - quit Jethro Tull after 1st album)

Cactus (good 60's rockers)
Johnny Winter (already mentioned but worth an encore)

I was lucky enough to see all these bands back when (except The Flock).

Bird 72, tempest fugit, and verdoro68, we are all apparently come from the 'same planet'. I have Savoy Brown on LP and Moby Grape, too....but it's been awhile! Canned heat, too, Spirit, and Cream, etc. Got to see Buffalo Springfield and like bands as a kid in San Francisco from '67-'70 in Golden Gate park (dad was a wanna be hippie), and saw Neil Young, John Fogerty, and the Greatful Dead there in '91 at a free event in the park. Fantastic, original stuff that can't be beat. My mom was on the same airplane in 1970 from SF to New York with the Greatful Dead and New Riders of the Purple Sage, along with Black Panther leader Huey Newton... I have the photos still and an autogrpahed cocktail napkin with Jerry Garcia's and Huey Newton's signature on it! Crazy times, indeed.

The good stuff was a little before my time, but I was fortunately to grow up with my parent's collection of LPs which included The Doors, The Beatles, Spirit, Yes, and The Who. I still remember how confusing The Who Sell Out and Their Satanic Majesties Request was to me as kid.

I forgot about Savoy Brown. They've been in my playlist lately too.

When I first moved out here I met John Beland from the Flying Burrito Brothers. That was probably the first time I realized there were more bands to classic rock than the ones you hear on the radio.

I was looking at the crew for David Crosby's first solo album the other day. It was recorded at Wally Heider's studio in SF and practically every big Bay Area musician played on it. I can't imagine the quantity of drugs that were consumed during the sessions.

I fired Sprint, Time Warner is next on the block to be cut. Just to pay for XM. The music I can get used to not listening to on the radio, The incessant, non stop barrage of mindless, dribble passed off as advertising makes me sick. I can't block it out anymore. I used to play my radio in the car like a piano. As soon as the car dealer started SCREAMING AT ME HOW CHEAP HIS CARS WERE!!! How dumb do advertisers think Americans are today? I firmly believe, they have zero respect for the poor saps who are lured by the deception based advertising today. I haven't put up with it for years. Deep Tracks on channel 27 is worth the monthly price of admission. They still play stuff from the best albums, just not the FM playlist songs, but way deep into the album. Get it free for a trial and if you love music, you will not cancel. Howard Stern I had to let go too, still doing the same shtick as twenty years ago to be charged a primium. Don't get me wrong, I love funny and raunchy, went to see that crew in Cleveland when the radio cables got cut by a competing station back in the 80's and was trashed at Tiffanies in the flats(best strip club in Cleveland in the day i'm told) by 7am. But I digress. Screw the radio, get XM.

FM playlists are my number one pet peeve.
I rarely listen to the radio anymore because of it but it's great to scan for the oddball stations when I'm driving across country.
My friend in Indiana insisted on listening to the LUP out of Chicago, for years Funny how 200-300 songs can get so monotonous.
Well I started listening to The Drive to counter act that, but that wore thin after about six months. Kinda like Same Day, Different S__t

I have a really diverse music collection on CD. A lot of different types of music, but I can't stand rap or anything mainstream from the last 12-15 years really.
I like to look up songs that were a flash in the pan 25-40 years ago, that I haven't heard on the radio since they were popular, and listen to them on YouTube.

One of my all time favorite deep cut albums is Guess Who's So Long, Banatyne
Also their Canned Wheat is good listening.
If you subtract Paint It Black & Under My Thumb from Aftermath it makes a pretty good change of pace Stones album.

Don't get me started on Bob Stroud. I enjoyed the Ten at 10 for a while, then it started to get stagnant like everything else.
Stroud got on my nerves trying to educate the listeners by always including a song that was released the last few weeks of the featured year. exmp; When I hear Toe the Line by Toto, I think of 1979, not 1978. Same thing with Pink Floyd's The Wall. Everyone knows that album was released in December 1979, but every time I hear the songs I remember what I was doing in springtime 1980.

And Stroud lovvved to use those soundbites to bash Richard Nixon at every opportunity. Typical classless liberal.
Not surprising C-S-N was one of his favorite groups.
By the last two years I spent in Michigan City, I had removed 97.1 from my car radio presets.

The LOOP on the other hand; I wished a C-130 would crash into their broadcast headquarters from day one.

Armageddon was kind of supergroup with one album from 1975. Comprised of Keith Relf from The Yardbirds, Bobby Caldwell of Captain Beyond and a few other folks. It sounds kind of like a cross between Rush and UFO.

That led to discovering Steamhammer which were the touring band for Freddie King. Sampled their first album and it sounded pretty cool.

One of my brothers close friends passed away recently and left him her collection of old vinyl. He didn't have room for them so now they're mine.

I've been going through them this morning, and what a treasure trove! I have several hundred albums myself I bought between about '66 to the early 80s and there are a lot of duplicates but a lot of stuff I don't have. Early Kinks, Yardbirds, Animals, all kinds of stuff.

I just finished listening to Blue Cheers' Vincebus Eruptum and now am listening to Ten Years Afters' Cricklewood Green. Looks like I'm not gettin' much done this weekend. Oh well, it's too hot to do much outside anyway. Oops, time to go flip the record over
