There is a reason for that. When the '71 T/A's came out in Aug '70, the 15x7 Honeycombs that had been advertised in brochures were not avail. Then there was the Fall of '70 strike & when Motorwheel started rallyII wheel production back up in early Nov of '70 they cranked out KU coded 14x6's & a few runs of KR's. 15x7 Honeycombs finally came avail in the later winter & dealers started ordering them on a big % of '71 T/A's, some Formula's & on a few GTO hardtops. There ended up being a a big stock of these Dec '70 dated KR's and all A & F plants that used them installed them til supplies got lower. I have a 7/21/71 KR, so obviously Motorwheel ran some at the date, still I've examined numerous Dec '70 KR's on mid production '72 models. Hope this helps.

I have a single 4/13..and truth be told, a good percentage of our cars came with mismatched wheels. I have seen one survivor low mile TA that had 3 4/13's and two 4/07(or 8).. So having perfectly matching dates may not be 100% as delivered..Just a thought..sure there will be those who disagree.. You are welcome to PM me with an offer..it is an unscared/pitted wheel

I'm not sure when the car was built, but it was delivered to the dealership in early May of 72 and was built in Pontiac. The VIN. is 2D37X2P. If that helps. My car was ordered with 15" Honeycomb's which I still have on the car.I Just wanted some correct KR's to change up the look. |

Add this date to the list. This is a very late JW date but appears to be genuine.

What's the story on the option "handling package" on a formula. Does that mean it had 14 rally iI wheels atandard? But, if also listed on Phs is rally II does that mean 15 wheels?

The tires will tell you which wheels it got Mike.

I have seen on other PHS for 72 Formulas it listed 3 ways.
Y99 w/ Rally IIs listed Y99 w/ Honeys listed Y99 w/ no wheels listed? Caps and Steel? All were 15" wheels. I think

1970 and 1971 Formulas with handling package got you Rally IIs, 1972 Formula Handling Package got you plain steelies and pov caps unless you ordered up the Rally IIs or Honeys as a separate option.

Thanks Lloyd! That helps a lot, and makes sense too. 15" for all?

Yep.
As Chris posted above, the Y96 or Y99 package got you the entire T/A suspension, front and rear - springs, shocks, stabilizer bars and, of course, the 15" tires.

I remember Don Keefe had a nice article on this topic a couple years ago in Smoke Signals. Don convinced me it was time to go through my NOS stuff and sell what I would more than likely never use.

Yet to run across any KR's produced in Fall of '71. On Fall of '71 into early winter original built '72 cars, I've run across several original matching sets of 12/30/70's, 5/29/71, & 7/7/71 dated KR's. Over the years, have had complete sets of all, along with one original dated mixed set of three 12/30's & two 12/29's. Have an extra 7/7/71 KR I'd let go, will ck with friend that recently picked up a KR see what it is. My only other extra KR's are late Feb & one 3/25/72?
