The whitewalls are later type radials. The white wall bias plys of the sixties were very narrow and close to the rim. So this could be anything from the eighties to maybe a decade ago when it became impossible to find correct size 225/70-14s.

I don't think we've got enough to go by....(ie, don't recognize the location or the building, can't read the license plates, nothing else conspicuous or helpful in the photo, etc).

The "quality" of the pic suggests to me that it is vintage. The fact that the cars are identical or nearly identical could mean it is a GM photo of some kind, since GM would have access to a pool of vehicles to chose (or create) a pair like that; typical owners would not.

if you open the pic up and enlarge it you can see it was borderless with round corners. Most of my family pics all the way up to the early 70's still had a white border with square edges. Mid to late 70's seems to be when they dropped the borders and rounded the corners. so my guess based on that and the wide whitewall radials is between '75 and the early 80's.

Just a note on the last post- these days it's easy to make any photo look old with tools available in iPhoto, Instagram, etc.

Interesting that the left car has those plastic door protectors the dealers used. My gut also tells me also that it's mid 70's to early 80's

Let me guess.
2 RAII cars - one auto, one stick. The 4sp guy was making fun of the automatic guy. They race for pinks. The automatic was bought new and prepped at Knafels but the 4sp guy did not know. By 500 ft. the automatic already has a car length on him and never has to look back. They are in front of the county DMV so the 4sp guy can sign over the title to the automatic guy.

See how close they are. The 4sp car was in the back. For a second he thought about just ramming the automatic due to anger, but then a cooler head prevailed. He could not intentionally wreck a 68 GTO even though he just lost it.

(It is my guess; I can make it any scenario I want )

But - because of the Endura front bumper - there would be no resulting damage, right?

To me the photo looks as if it was taken back in the day when the cars were fairly new (1968 to 1970). I am basing this assumption from the style tires on the cars and the dealer door edge protector as well as the fixtures on the building. However, I think the photo was developed later (around 1978 to 1980) based on the border style of the photo and the photo quality. It could be the picture was originally snapped back in the day and was on a Kodak slide and later redeveloped to the paper photograph in the late 1970s.

Good one – did not take that into consideration.

But what about the automatic in front? The front bumper can survive a sledge hammer attack but the back bumper….

The wider whitewalls on the 14" tires make me want to think the pic was taken 1972 & later. Mention that though I dont have a good handle what was avail whitewall 14" tire wise at tires stores in the early 70's. A '68 GTO would have come with what if a factory white wall tire? G78x14's with the narrow whitewall? After the single narrow whitewalls, the dual stripe whitewalls started showing up on on Pontiac A-bodys aprox 1970. Had the original original dual stripes on my 4000 mile '72 Lux LeMans parts car. The first factory issue slightly wider whites I can remember were on '73 models.

Those plastic edge guards came on brand new Oldsmobiles from the factory when I worked in an Olds dealer. Usually just the drivers door to help with transportation damage.
