One of the items I lost points on at the convention in conocurs class was "missing plastic coating on male ends of seatbelts"

Not that I take their word as they marked items wrong that were correct on my car and lacking knowledge for such a supposedly experienced trio but does anyone know here what they are talking about?

If there was suppose to be a coating, how would one buckle the belts?

Any photos if true?

Mark the plastic coating is on the end where the belt passes through.

They were right about that, the seat belt resto guys do not add back the coating. I wonder if the judges deduct points for them having gone yellowish with age.

I have an NOS set of 69 convertible shoulder belts still in the box and that coating is colorless and fully transparent.

Thank you John and Jeremy. Guess they were right after all. I have never seen that since all my belts were restored. You think the belt restorers would put them back on or repro them.

There's no way I am going to install them even if I could put them back on since the belts would have to be re-stitched. Oh well on that one.

Good point on the yellowing as they age John regarding points. I'm sure they would deduct if they were yellowed.

I have deluxe belts and only see the plastic coating on the front seat lap belt male ends. These deluxe fronts use a smaller male end and buckle than the other belts.

The back seat belts that have no plastic coating have the 1 C 69 date codes on the tags and were rarely used prior to 1979 and unused after that time. They appear as new except the tags are not a bright white now.

The shoulder belts also have no plastic coating either.

Are you all only referring to the front lap belts or referring to standard belts having this coating on the back and front seat belts?

Does anyone else have original 69 deluxe belts?

My 69FB has a deluxe interior with standard belts. Factory mistake in Oct of 68. The belts are original to the car and do have the clear plastic on the buckles both front and back.

I only know of one company by the name of "Snake Oyl" that restores seat belts and have asked them about the clear plastic. If and when they reply I will post what they say.

It appears that they would need to unstitch the belt, dip the anchor and then restitch it at the cost of around $150.

Their words ....

"We can’t redip yours but we can sell you tongues and anchors dipped for $10 each then there would be an unstitch and restitch for each one of $12.50 each."

It figures they offer all that now but 14 years ago when my belts were restored by them they didn't. Interesting information though and thanks for sharing. It is tempting though and it could be done over the winter. Hmmm.....

I thought that it was going to be a lot more expensive. I learned something today.
