Hi, All hoping for some insight here

lIm installing a new trunk floor and braces.

Is the trunk floor brace supposed to weld up to the back of the wheel well?

When I get the brace bolted to the frame mount and the trunk floor section laid in place, I end up with about 3/4" gap between the brace and the back of wheel well. Let me know if I need to clarify.

I know that some guys on here have just jacked the rear up off the frame and slid the one piece under. I went on Squidtones web site the other day and saw he did the three piece pan. If you go on his website he has a lot of step by step pics and info on that install. I can take a picture of my wheel well and post it or get me your email. The picture I will take is through the rot hole and you can see the brace right inside. I can also send you pics of the bottom of my one piece which has braces on already if that helps.

Based on a few pics I think the answer is yes but the PY braces I ordered seem to be about 3/4" short.

Yes, the small 'side' braces that have the body mount in them are to weld to the wheel well.
You may have to 'encourage' the wheel well to fit the brace. I drilled sheet metal screws into the curved edge of the brace from the inside of the wheel well. This will allow you to weld them, and then once you remove the screws, weld up the holes.

When I did mine, I made sure the body mount bolt was in place so it ensured alignment.

Hi,
I agree, yes, that side to side brace gets welded to the wheel well. Don't forget too, that GTO's had the small triangular piece....Pontiac called it a "filler"
So that filler gets sandwiched in there too.
I remember when I did mine, I did have a pretty big gap. I had to massage the thick brace flange piece to fit better. The trunk pan flange require quite a bit of massaging around there too.
Clamps do go a long way to help....and once you start on one end, a body hammer brings the rest in really nicely. I love how steel moves and bends!

Ok.... Can someone help me understand where and what the triangular "filler" piece is? That one is new to me.
