In my quest to find out what steering parts I have (the 67 stuff is not right) can you tell me what other years and models fit the 67 Firebird, I believe 68 and 69 Firebird work along with 67 and 68 camaro, but I also heard Nova too but do not know the years,ANY HELP, thanks

The subframes from 67-69 F-bodies and 68-74 x bodies are the same. That includes Firebirds, camaros, novas, apollos and venturas. BBC's, SBC's, and BOP engines can all be used with the engine mounts being the difference in swapping from one to the other. Suspensions parts from 67-72 are all identical with the pitman arm being the difference based upon manual or power steering. 73-74 steering components for some reason were changed around on the x bodies BUT anything from the earlier years can be easily used to "convert" it to the cheaper parts if you swap it all out. There must be something crossed or messed up in your parts because the 67 stuff WILL work with anything from 67-72. hope this helps.

The tie rods and everything else that goes with the actual steering parts are all interchangeable and you should be able to buy everything new for well under $200. The only thing that differs is the Pitman arm. On everything from 67-72, the drag link is a non wearable item but you can buy replacement ones now in case you bend one or don't have one for a conversion. on the 73-74 X bodies, the drag has a knuckle in it and makes it a wearable item which are expensive to have rebuilt since they are not available aftermarket (around $400 or more). They basically took the extra knuckle off the earlier pitman arm and stuck it on the drag link.

That's what was the problem,the drag link I have has the knuckles on both sides and the one listed that I got has no knuckles at all. I'm going to buy all the steering parts again that are listed for the 67 and try it.

Ecklers(sp) Firebird parts sells a new drag link that doesn't have the knuckles for around $65. Check ebay also. I just bought one last year. You can easily get all the tie rods and sleeves from an O'reilly's or Autozone for around $10-$12 each, they will be Moog parts, and you won't be paying a premium for them from someone else. The knuckle should be on the pitman arm and idler arms.

Sounds like the center link was from a completely different application-- the best thing to do is start fresh get the right center link and tie rods if your going that route my as well change the idler arm and check to see if your pitman arm is correct

I know your trying to identify what you have-- once you have the right new parts to compare youll probably find that all the stuff on the car is different

The right center link is thicker then the one in it, I changed everything to 67 firebird parts and they worked fine. After a lot of research I found that the steering parts on it were from an Apollo,Ventura type set up, the correct 67 parts bolted right up from the spindles. I replaced the inner,outer tie rods,drag link,idler arm,and pitman arm. Now I'm going to rest the engine on the subframe to set the load and tighten all of it up. The body just got back from blasting and there was a little more rot then I thought,but that's what the body guys are for. Thanks for the help guys.
