Rally 2 vs Dog Dish
Just for kicks, I decided to change the look from Rally 2's to Dog Dish. (I was given the tires, I had the hub caps, so I picked up some 15 in steelies to complete the look)
What a difference. |

Not bad with the dog dish caps on but I like the Rallys better. But that's just me.

I think I like your car better with the Rallies, but it certainly has a no nonsense, bad ass look with the poverty caps.

Rally II's = cool. Dog dish on black wheels and beefy tires says, "You don't want to mess with this!"

I too like the poverty caps and have a set secured but in the last several years it seems every other Pontiac is sporting them.
Just look at recent some show pics.

You can really pull off the poverty caps look with your car!

What size rally IIs were you running? I have 14x6s on my 67 now but was thinking about going to a 15x7 or 8. I like your car either way.

Thanks for the comments guys, just thought I would post this to show what a difference wheels and tires make, and to give you an idea of what it may look like on your cars if you are thinking about a change. (see 2 more pics for comparison)
The Rally 2's are 15 X 7's with 235/60/15's and 245/60/15's, and the dog dish are 15 X 7's 205/60/15's and 255/60/15's. I have had the Rallys on for 4-5 years now so the dog dish are a neat change, but I will probably go back to the Rallys when the novelty is over. (after all my buddies have seen them) |

Find some 15" trim rings to throw on with the caps. That is another interesting look.

gtoric,
That is a neat look with the dog dish and trim rings. But, if I put trim rings on they will scratch up my black wheels and then they will have to stay on, or paint them, again. There is a PYer who has a 64 with dog dish and trim rings, 'The Champ' (I think) and it looks really good. |

My father had poverty caps on his '64 GTO he bought new in 1964, and had photos to prove it. In the '80's, he built a clone to his original '64 and ran Poverty caps. I liked them back when I was a kid. When he drove the '66 that I now own, he had the '66 Spoke hubcaps (fugly) with thin whitewalls on skinny tires (fugly). When I pulled the car from his garage, one of the first items I wanted to take with me was a set of Poverty caps (he had about 30 of them), and I picked out the best 4 (wish I would have grabbed more, but had no idea his house would get destroyed a few months later). When I first got my car on the road, I had Ralley IIs, but they are not really correct on a '66, and I'm not really a fan of the Ralley Is. I love the look of my car with the black wheels and poverty caps, but I'd like to go to a more modern lightweight set of wheels. Eventually I would like to put a set of 17's on the car, but I will try to keep the stock look as long as I can. OP - you car looks great either way. The color is cool - is that an OEM color?

Thanks, Your Car looks great as well, they would look good together. I have had people come up to me and tell me they love the hub caps, and they have never seen the car with the Rally 2's on it! I was expecting people to tell me that the car doesn't look finished with the hub caps, or I didn't have the money to get nice wheels?......who knew?? the original color for 67 was Signet Gold, but I always thought the Tiger Gold from 66 was a much "richer" color so I went with that, or as close as I could get. I like being able to change the look of the car so easily. |
