I have Direct Tv and I will never go back to Time Warner for cable. I do have their internet though. My bill is about $80 a month during the regular year, and then I have Sunday Ticket which pushed it up to about $130 per month for 6 months. (new subscribers get the ticket free the first year) I pay about $50 for the internet at 15MPS which is plenty. I bought my own modem for $70 so that save me the $6 a month rental fee. No land line, just use cell phones which my wives work pays for so no comment there. I am in a different situation with TV though because I live in NC but am originally from Philly so I need to get my Philly sports (save your comments..lol) down here which cable can't provide. My picture quality is awesome and although outages do happen here and there they are not frequent enough to matter to me. I have also has great experience with Direct Tv's customer service.

It's a satellite dish, just not 'Dish' brand.
![]() I'm also a Directv user since Primestar. Like it a lot better than 'Dish network'. (brother had that he changed also)

Nope, not anymore. Dish TV DVR reciever I have uses one unit for two TV's in the house & one in the shop (multiple with bdrm). The two sets in the house can be run seperately in dual mode or on single mode (so you can pause in den & resume in bdrm or shop or vice versa). $68 @ month with all Encore channels in package. Had Direct TV for 12 years and told to shelve it. Glad I did. |

My Comcast bill was $220 per month after the $59/mo come-on price expired. I grudgingly paid it for about a year, getting all the channels and ok service. Two days ago my bill came, and it is now $246 a month. That's criminal, in my mind. I called up Comcast to cancel, stating that I could not justify paying that much....it was preposterous, etc. They ended up lowering my bill by over $60. So, I'll stay with them for now. But I'm always looking. I think all the companies play the game and get as much as they can. But it gets to a certain point where the rate is not justifiable. I went without any cable for 7 years at my last place, and really didn't miss it much. Got a lot more done, and read more.

I just got done calling TW cable, dish, and direct.
TW offered to knock $4 off my current monthly bill! So it would still be higher than last month. Thanks!Direct TV,I hung up on. I'm not even getting into it all here,it was like talking to a used car salesman. I could not get any prices without creating an account ,giving my SS #,ect. Dish looks like a winner so far. But I need to call back with some more questions I forgot to ask,and I want to talk to a few locals to see how there reception is in this area.

Drake,
I found out who the local guy for Dish was and called him direct. The guy spoke clearly and to the point. Two hours later he was here and hooked me up 200 channels + Encore for $48for the first year. DONE. Charles |

Go to your local store and order Directv. Their customer service line for new orders is terrible. I went through the same thing when we got ours. BUT.... Dish network is terrible too - for service, picture quality and channel selection. Directv sucks only once. Dish sucks as long as you have them. I cant stress enough that Dish is a budget satellite provider (you get what yo upay for) and Directv will make you happy in the long haul. Ive had them on and off forever. |

Screw Time Warner! Had them for 10+ years and then they started raising their rates. Literally every month there would be a notice in the bill saying something was going up starting the next month. In 6 months the bill went up $57.00. We had the TV/Internet/Phone package and they wouldn't budge on price so I dumped them all.
Now we have DirecTV, AT&T phone and U-Verse for Internet. Total is $80 less a month, we have more HD channels and that includes NFL Network, etc. Perfectly happy. The DTV DVR can record up to 6 shows at once, TW only 2, and you have to be watching one of them. And then, DTV is whole-house, meaning you can record from anywhere, watch from anywhere. TW you can only watch from the DVR you record from.

Paul,OK,maybe I'll give Direct another try.
What about no reception in snow and rain? How often does that happen with Dish and Direct? Does a drizzle screw it up,or does it take a full on storm?

Obviously I must have gotten the poorest people Direct had on hand for 13 years! I have better service & choices for $68 @ month than I ever had for $100 plus and rising constantly with Direct. |

I`m not so sure there`s much difference in picture quality between DirecTV and DISH. I have had DISH for last 12 years and am happy with them. My brother has had both and said it`s a horse a piece between the two, and same goes for a friend from work who switched from DirecTV to DISH. They`re both just fine and I agree with earlier poster who said to shop for the best deal.

Gentlemen:
I just kicked Time Warner to the curb yesterday. Their service was terrible it took over an hour for them to answer the phone. Each time I opened their dam bill they were raising their rate. I am presently hunting for a better service. I about to kick it all to the curb and just we get the quickest internet connection I can find. Buy the strongest Wi-Fi transmitter and cut my bill to 1/3 by selling my password my two next door neighbors. I not about to pay $150.00 dollars a month for a cell phone and cable bill. It is about time put a stop to raising cable bills along with raising beer prices. Besides I need to get my priorities straight - I need a new AR-15 and 10,000 rounds of ammo and to finish the restoration of my 68 GTO. Cable Rates Xuck ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think the difference between Cable, Dish and DTV is all in what your looking for. I am very picky about the quality of the TV picture. I have a great TV and I think DTV delivers the best quality pitcure. |
