Well, all the lines are off the Black Car along with just about everything else. I do have a favor to ask of a PY member though. I will need to repaint the yellow, orange and green line retainers, but I hate to buy three cans of spray paint just for three clips. I will if necessary, but I hope that maybe I can bead blast these clips and send them to someone that has already bit the bullet so to speak, and has this paint on their shelf. If someone can help me out I would be very appreciative. Send me a PM or text to 304.859.7509.

Well, I gave up and sourced paint myself for the clips and I am very happy with how the test turned out. Now I'll pull the original clips and get them shot as they are a little different. Here's a couple of pictures which include the paint I used. I have become a big fan of the TAMIYA model paint for little things like this. They have a wide range of colors, and the paint is pretty good. Here you go.

Nah, that won't happen. I'll still drive it and Dave's already been promised the first burnout.

This baby is just about stripped. A few small and random pieces and parts remain, but it's pretty much down to a rolling shell. Another day will more than knock it in the head. Everything looks pretty clean really. A very random mix of fasteners, and Gorilla tape, but other than that it looks good. I'm starting to bead blast some small parts for Powdercoat Eddie, and there's the inner fenders....MPD will probably go ahead and haul stuff down for powdercoating in piecemeal lots. It's kind of scary blowing up a perfectly good car, and you worry about figuring out how to put all the parts back together, but it is also exciting.

Clips, I have my lines off my Formula now and after I get them soda blasted Ill be doing the clips, I have 2 more cars of clips to do too. I will be happy to do yours Bob, but I need to be certain of the colors that I buy. Im slightly color blind and would need some duplicolor numbers. Doing by sight for me is dangerous.. I think I remember Bill mentioning that some of the aftermarket clips were wrong shade, etc, so I would like to get it right..

Yeah, if not for that this job would be best left for professionals. Don't forget the engine build. Your kids did a great job at that - the engine runs so smoothly and always starts with one twist. However, I would like to know who put the battery tray bolts in backwards. It probably took 30 minutes to get it out because the J-nuts were on the tray and bolts were going front to back.

Bruce - I'll noodle around on the clip paint. I can't believe there isn't someone that can chime in at least with rattle can recommendations.

Lol. Battery tray was that way when I bought it. I think I gave you some old photos of when the second owner attempted the restoration of the car and had the front clip off the car.

If I recall correctly, I found some Rustoleum pastel color spray paints that were very close to a couple of the clip colors. (My wife had them from some interior decorating adventures from a few years back).

Yes, indeed. The car will be amazing when the top side looks as good as the bottom! (and Bob gets rid of the 1980's Canadian Gravel Guard on the lower 8" of all the sheetmetal) :-)

The frame rail replacement we did, came out well. Those reproduction frame rails that donated the lower front sections and rear spring hanger portions were excellent pieces.

Well, when you pull out the trunk mat the car is pretty much stripped. Here is the original trunk mat that was in the car. I don't know if it was "original" or a GM replacement, but it is actually in really good shape. However, I bought an NOS mat that is pretty incredible. Here are a few pictures. The "original" has a part number embossed on the bottom of the mat. The NOS has a part number embossed on top that I did an impression of, and another number stamped on the bottom. Sorry about the orientation of the last two pictures. Photobucket is acting up today.

The "original" mat was one I got from someone here on the site (I think). It was NOS but due to being stored in a rolled up position for decades, it cracked in several places. As a result I got it much cheaper than buying a mint NOS mat. I tried using rubberized tape to repair the underside and keep the cracks from spreading but was not too successful.

The Black Car is about ready to go. There's a few stripped screw holes that need fixed, and the front sway bar brackets need to have rivnuts installed to replace the bots that were welded in. Other than that, this car is ready to move in with Tom for a while. I'm leaving the forward lamp harness and condensor for Tom, since that is easier to do with the valance off.

Steve - On the trunk mat, MPD wanted me to ask to why you didn't use black duct tape? We've found your tracks everywhere, including on top of the gas tank, and it's become a running joke. More truthfully, I think the tape on the trunk mat didn't work so well because the foil backing limited its' flexibility. I have some butyl rubber home construction tape that I am going to use before sending the mat to its' new owner.

I tried the black duct tape on the mat but it wouldn't stick well. I'll send you a complimentary roll of the official black duct tape to match your snazzy new black paint. :-)

Parts are slowly starting the rebuild and refurb process. The alternator is the first. The case was glass beaded and refinished with Aluma Blast, and the internals totally rebuilt. The fan and pulley still need to be replated, but it looks good and it is exciting to finish deconstruction and start heading in the other direction.

Here's a few before and after pics. I would appreciate a little help with the date decoding.

We used whats called a "Huck Riveter" At the dealership for this job, its pneumatic and has the balls to do steel rivets. This looks like it should fix you right up though !!
