In this day and age with computers and great art programs, it is inexcusable for these decals to be so incorrect.

Again, the reproduction market fails to produce and totally disappoints.

interesting... I think I just bought a tire inflation decal from Ames - my original is tattered beyond use - so I hadn't taken notice of original versus new...

So, I called for Jim Osborn to discuss the decals. The phone was answered by Barb Castle who informed me that Jim Osborn was dead. I explained the purpose of my call, and ultimately sent her the photos comparing the repro decals with the originals. During our discussion she said it sounded like I had ordered the wrong part number decal. I told her it was what they had listed for a 1972 Trans Am and was a KN decal which matched mine, and that the only other 1972 Firebird decal they have listed is a KM. Now maybe GM had a different KN decal for TA's than they did for Formulas, but my Formula has the WS6 handling package so I doubt it. If someone here has a '72 TA with original sticker it would be interesting to hear what your part number is.

Here is the email response I received back from Barb. I'm not sure if she channeled Jim's spirit from the grave, or if maybe he isn't really dead. All in all a strange response.

Darrell is making good progress on the Black Car. The bodywork is mostly done and he got the car in primer yesterday. Next week the rear end get's dropped and the shell will go on the rotisserie to work the bottom. Hopefully I can run up next week and grab the axle and spring assembly. I plan to clean and restore that here and then take it and the front subframe assembly back to supercar for final assembly. Here's a few pictures...

That would Not be good for the hood and nose. Even with Acrylic in the Lacquer now, it just doesnt hold up to temp changes well, and 200+ more hours of blocking and buffing .

From what I understand Darrell is not using the lacquer for overall body refinishing. I have seen some of his restorations up close and Darrell has a talent for being able to spray B/C with the look of lacquer. This is highly desirable vs the 1/4inch thick looking mop and glow appearance that most B/C finnishs have. Im certain that he is using it for secondary items, maybe he will chime in on how and why he has decided that this is beneficial to the overall quality of a period correct restoration.

No wonder a lot of original cars don't have the tire pressure stickers. Looks like a lack of adhesive on that one

many of the ones i have seen looked like they were made with something like a heavy stock construction paper, and stuck on with a glue stick...
the glossiness of the "decal" was a top finish, and the glossy part along with the imk would seem to flake off.

that decal was a "rev 5"!?

nice car, that guy is really talking it up with some half truths...
i wonder why a car touted as so correct, would gave had the console removed (and the rather rare 8-track pedesltel added), a spoiler added, and those additional grille badges added...
are thise trim rings period correct?
(my knee-jerk reaction is that they're not correct)

I wont say original but I do have a lacquer mixing system.

Lacquer is very expensive because of the government fees but I still use it on interior trim parts and some under hood parts if were going for a "best of". On the Brewster 73 the air cleaner and such parts are painted in gloss black lacquer just like factory instead of the too glossy or too fat bc/cc or single stage enamel. gloss black lacquer doesn't exactly come out gloss black when sprayed properly, it has a slight haze to it till you buff it so I just make sure those parts are as perfect as we can get them, dirt free and leave the haze.
