Default The Black Car has a new caretaker

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling....Darrell is really starting to roll, and so is the Black car.

Progress is moving forward fast. The body is now on the subframe and rear axle assembly. Things are looking great. Now we just need a good Spectra Premium gas tank as the first three delivered have been crushed by UPS. Darrell was good and lucky in tracking down a heated rear glass to replace the original that Tom ruined, and his glass polisher came by today to shine it up.

Here's a few pictures.

T-38 days and counting...

Been at Petit LeMans race at Road Atlanta for the last week it feels like - so just catching up on the progress Bob. Wow! Darrell and company are really making progress.

Default The Black Car has a new caretaker

Tick, tock....The clock is moving forward, but so are Darrell and his guys at an impressive pace.

MPD and I are heading up Friday morning in the F350 redeye express to deliver more parts and pieces, and spend a little time twisting wrenches. The seat got finished and delivered Sunday, so not much remains other than getting two more wheels refurbished, and the jack parts all refinished. It is currently wearing the wheels from the Red Car.

The biggest issue we have is getting a Spectra Premium gas tank delivered that doesn’t have dents on the bottom. We have currently had at least 5 gas tanks delivered which all were dented. I also ordered tanks from Tamraz and Part’s Place, but they inspected them before shipping and all their inventory had dents. Three more tanks are scheduled to arrive between tomorrow and Monday, so we are keeping our fingers crossed. If anyone has a new Spectra with no dents, please let me know. We may need to talk.

Here’s a few pics...

Gary - I consider myself lucky on the seats. I have an auto upholstery guy that lives about 3 miles away and he did a great job installing the Legendary seat covers. For $200 he stripped the seats down, delivered the bare frames back to me, provided all installation materials, installed the covers, and delivered the finished seats. I sandblasted the bare frames and had them powdercoated.

Hey Bob, just noticed the exhaust hangers in one of your photos above. They are installed backwards; tell Darrell to turn them around so that the tang goes through the rubber from the front side. That's the way they are shown in all the drawings in my service manual, and it's what was wrong with my Gardner system after we first installed it that had my tips angling down. Once we flipped the hangers around, we got the correct geometry and better clearances.

Can't believe how great this car is turning out!

BJ

Two more tanks delivered today and two more tanks refused and sent back with UPS. Tanks 8, 9 and 10 are scheduled to arrive next week.

Thanks BJ. Good catch.

Me thinks someone may lose their job over all these dented tanks! Hope you finally get a good one out of the next batch Bob.
