Hey Y'all. I haven't done anything to the car but I did order the rest of the A/C hardware that I need. It should be here by Wednesday. I am running into a small problem with a speaker installation. It seems that the rear enclosures will not fit behind the seat with the top down. I opted for a cloth top so that might be the culprit. I will just have to come up with an alternate mounting position. I am considering a pair of kick panels made for an A/C car for the front speakers. http://www.ebay.com/itm/121118574790...S:1123&vxp=mtr

One thing that I found with speakers mounted behind the rear seat on the convertible is that the sound is muffled tremendously with the top boot in place.

They sure look like the type you'd kick a lot Phil. Especially the left side as it looks like it'll be pretty close to the dimmer switch down there on the floor. Remember... you asked what we think of em.

Gary, I am open to suggestions as long as they don't involve cutting any interior panels. I thought about mounting two small speakers up under each side of the dash but i don't know if I will have any clearance with the A/C duct work.
I also thought about putting the rear speakers in the bottom of the convertible top well on either side of the seats but I don't know if the pistons will prevent me from doing so.

That would make for muffled sound also.

If you put any under the dash Phil, I'd think you'd need the smallest possible with the best sound. I did that with my 79 Formula and they worked pretty good.... and there was less room to do it in that car than there is in the GTO.

You could try the dual speakers that replace the original center speaker. I've "heard" they they do a pretty good job. How about some slimline speakers the will fit under the bucket seats that lets sound come out towards the rearseat? Just an idea to look into as an option.

I don't want to cut any holes if I don't have to. I would do without a radio and speakers if that was my only option.
As far as the dual speaker for the front, I have heard a couple and they leave a lot to be desired.
I wish I could afford some Bose speakers and I may save back until I can get them.

I have decided to put the radio and speakers on the back burner for the time being. I got the rest of my A/C hardware last week and hope to get the wiring harness(es) i need in the next week or two. Then I will need to get a diagram of the vacuum line routing from the dash control to the various hook ups on the A/c box.
I spent $195.91 on the A/C stuff and worked one hour cleaning and painting some small brackets for the A/C.

Didn't do anything this week. I am almost sure I bought the A/C extension harness from a fellow PYer but can't find it. It may be at the shop in Ellijay where I had the interior put in. I am going to call Sanford and see if it it is there before buying another one.
And, I have a question about doing a tune-up when the time comes. How do you change the number 2 plug on an A/C car? I can't even get a socket on the plug with the compressor out of the car. The bracket is in the way.

Since you're asking this question, I'm assuming the '67 has that big cast iron bracket over the #2 plug just like the '68 does?
What I used to do was to use one of the 13/16" spark plug sockets that has the 3/4"(?) hex at the end of it. I'd put the bare socket on the plug and use a 3/4"(?) boxed end wrench on the socket.

47 years ago I ground down the upper part of the socket so it would rotate freely in that space and still use it & a 12" extension.

That is that handiest sparkplug socket anyone could have. I've had guys want to borrow mine, but I won't let it leave the garage. Ain't it funny how you lend tools and they end up gone forever.

I like those sockets, too. I have a couple myself. I think I needed one to get past the steering shaft on one of mine.

Greg, not sure how rare but I've not seen one lately. Try Sears, Lowes, or someplace that carries S&K. Mine is an S&K sparkplug socket.
