Default Olds 308 in a trans am?

My brothers brother in law just bought a 79 trans am. Looks like a trans am nice paint job and all, but motor is an olds 308. Anyone ever heard of this engine in a Trans Am. I didn't want to burst his bubble, but my thoughts was it was a firebird cloned to a Trans Am. Didn't get a vin, but I thought 79's came with a Pontiac 400 with a 4 speed, and all the rest were 403 olds.

Other weird things, no T- tops, it had a console with power window switch, but roll up windows. Also Camaro seats and door panels, no tail pipe splitters, but did have a set of those new snowflake 17" snowflake wheels, and about 2" of clearance between the ground and doors. (Hotchkins springs) Very low, drove it had some umph, oh yeah no turn signal lever, and now windshield wiper motor or windshield wipers. Started raining at the Good Guys Car show, long ride home. Paid $9000. Made me feel like I 've got a $20,000 car. If it's not a clone, than I hate to see people taking advantage of these car's going up in Value.

Check the the vin first, and don't you mean 307? If it's an auto car and is a real TA, it would indeed have a 403. But, a 307 would be a direct bolt in. Possibly blew the 403 and someone put in a 307? Just offering hope.

I think if your brother in law is a fool if he bought it before he had anyone with some knowlage looking at it before hand. So if thats the case he got what he deserved by being that stupid. The car he bought sounds like it's just a bunch of junk put together to make up what someone wanted to be a T/A to sell it to someone just like your brother in law. If he's smart he will go to see a laywer right away & get his money back because he didn't buy what he was told it was. But he needs to do it right away.
