Frame numbers
Is this typical of frame numbers for a 68 GTO? Not very legible or aligned very well.
Last digits should read 8R200066. Which matches all the other numbers ...but if you didn't know what the other numbers were you probably wouldn't know what these are. Would this poor legibility be any concern on a "numbers matching" car? JohnnyB |

It wouldn't bother me a bit. As long as the numbers match-they match! The guys stamping your frame were only human and they made mistakes too! They were mass-produced vehicles that nobody could have imagined would be restored and scrutinized 45 years later! You mess up one stamping, just move on to the next one!

At least your frame is legible! I've seen some where the stamp was so light and with so much pitting you could never find the numbers.

Probably ok.
I was the production supervisor in that area in the truck plant for a couple years. The frame stamper was a large hydraulic device hung from a tool rail overhead. It was very bulky to move around and mis-hits (and double hits) were fairly common. I wouldn't worry about it. K

The VIN numbers are on the top side of the frame rail, to the rear of the driver side rear axle hump in the frame. To the left of the fuel tank if you were looking straight down from above with no body on the car.
