Default MUFFLER REMOVAL

I am not a butcher...I did have to rent a SAWZ ALL...as whenever I owned one I ended up cutting trees with it...I have a grinder that got me what I wanted..plan is to use all the original pipes and only replace the muffler..when the muffler gets here, I will have a better plan..off comes the pumpkin cover....soon the $ runs out and I am a hungry man..I broke into the piggybank for this last hurrah to see what I can accomplish as I start work or some sort of career training (whatever that means).. in 2 weeks,,.no summer off, damn...the one pic of the lower leaf spring plate shows original black paint then the other is the nefarious silver overspray...

See if you can get a picture of the numbers on the pinion gear (picture Axle 14). Also, turn the ring gear and see if any numbers are stamped along the side (bottom edge of the teeth. Picture Axle 12).

Bearing caps won't indentify year.
Fill plug is on the side of the carrier housing. Use a 3/8" drive (square) to remove it.
S-shaped spring is your preload spring for the Posi clutches.

Glenn,

I'm glad you changed your mind and decided to leave the car it's original color. L/B is much more rare and an awesome color.

Default AXLE

I was wondering if the stamp means anything?...most likely whatever that exterior stamp on the housing..is whats inside..I may be wrong and really do want to solve this mystery (wheres Shaggy?)...of course gear ratios are important...with a changed axle...did the gear ratio change?..and how does that affect the T/A?...so still a lot of mystery to solve...

Here's a pick showing the location of the ring gear ID. This rear end has an 11:41 or 3.73:1 gear ratio.

Default AXLE

165TH..I will check this axle some more..but I would like your help confirming what axle this is..a 1976/...either removed from a new or used car..(statues have worn off by now)...can we determine the gear ratio??...hard to believe the 1972 guts were installed...whats your opinion on 72 455 H.O. auto with a/c gear ratio?...factory vs. what is in this axle assuming its a 1976 with that part #?...THANKS!!

The brake mounting holder welded to the tube told me it was '76-newer. But, they re-used the old brake lines. And maybe the old pinion yoke.

Tips were probably bought thru the dealership as exhaust has been replaced.

Taken from this thread is usually what happens to the rear, requiring replacement.

Your stamping on the Posi unit looks to have been assembled on Jan. 9th, 1975, 1st shift. And here is what numbers to look for...

Those are the numbers. The first number is probably the GM part number.

42 13 = 3.23:1

....NO!!...its stuff like that that is frustrating to repair...I asked at an auto glass place...the guy was older than me and he had no clue!...if I was better organized I think what I need is a constant flame to heat up a thimble full of solder...then just pour it over the connection...of course it would be taped off for staying in one place...I am certain the factory had something that shot out solder...I tried with a solder iron but it was not working out for me..I am still trying to track a friend of mine who solders all the time..he most likely could do it..I should ask if someone could post a photo of an original..I think it has to be soldered..not glued??...thanks!!

Default REAR TRAY

not trying to overkill this tray but I just mounted the rear seat after like 24 years..the cardboard/jute panel divider hides the seat springs?!...just some detail pix on how well the tray fits with the rear seat in place.in one photo you can see the divider...but once I pressed the rear seat into the steel divider it went away..fit is real nice!...and thanks Pepi as I need to get this window in!.if my carpet dye would arrive..then we could make some real interior finished progress!..it has to work (xrosses fingers)

I got to thinking about this and did a little research and came up with Loctite/Permatex 21351. It is a rear window defogger repair kit. It repairs broken elements and tabs. Check out this link (if it works) http://www.permatex.com/training/training-videos

If you try this I looked on Amazon, and it had mixed reviews, but it seems as though it was poor preparation. The ones that said it worked great said they watched this video and it had more steps than what the package shows, and another one list the steps that he did.

I don't know if it will work, because they say it must use a tab, I could not tell from your picture, but it didn't look like you had a tab. Hopefully I just didn't see it.
