If you are going to make a carrer of drag racing you need to go through it.....but if your engine is still in good shape...compression,oil pressure,etc...it will likely be OK for the occasional pass down the quarter,as long as you don't ask it to do more than it was designed to...

That's okay, run into many guys like this over the years. It's a common response from people that don't fully understand what's going on here, or from people that just haven't tried it themselves. I get a kick out of that youtube link. Ricks RAll dyno'd at 525 hp , pretty stout for a stock built 400. I built and tuned his quadrajet that is running that car,sight unseen with no changes needed when dyno'd,which is how I know these numbers. Really humors me to see that link on PY's, wasn't long ago someone told me to "shut up and learn about carbs from those that know" on a PY thread discussing an EES 70 Q Jet.. now one of my carbs running one of the fastest Pontiacs out there is linked on a PY thread.. funny...yes, funny..

Yeah, first of the round ports. Very scarce that first year so the cars weren't well known for years except in tight drag racing circles.

It's the lightest of the Fbodies, with good heads, compression, long branch manifolds, and camshaft, they are runners for sure.

Here I found an old glossy running my car. I remember this race and the car in the other lane, but don't remember the year exactly.
The 97 bird is a procharged LT1 that should be making twice the power I am. My stocker put a hurt on him The firts 60 foot was everything, this is about mid track trying to run me down, he didn't get it done. The race was at Kil-Kare back when the TA Nats used to have drag racing and made it worthwhile going.. Several people enjoyed watching my bird run and one of them shot this photo. Somehow they got in touch with other people that knew me and a few weeks later this photo was in my mailbox. I thought that was pretty cool. Enjoy, photobucket won't keep it up for long....

Mine is 3,690 without a driver, no weight adding options other than PS and PDB.
That 68 of Rick's I wouldn't be surprised if it scaled at 31-3200 lbs. without a driver give or take, and I believe is a no option car to exploit the weight advantage more.

67-68's are the lightest, 69's got a little heavier, and 2nd gens just got plain chunky But 70 and up does have a couple of minor advantages, the engine setback being one which helps weight transfer, critical point running on 6" bias plys. Usually cars with more rear overhang have an advantage too, like A-bodies.

That vette he's running in one of the vids isn't a lightweight either just because it's fiberglass, not like people would assume. They added alot of weight with the style change to a C3 in 1968. My 71 Big block vette tips the scales at 3740 without a driver, but does have AC, PS, PDB.
