I purchased a Can Am about 2 months ago and it was missing the entire air cleaner assembly, I have the scoop and the locking ring but that is all, does anyone have one they would part with or can anyone tell me where to find what I need. Was the air cleaner off of another car used and then adapted to the shaker scoop or was it a Can Am only thing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't indicate if your car is Olds or Pontiac powered. The air cleaner base with the trumpet snorkel is the same as all of the other 350/400 4 barrel Pontiac engines found in the A or G body Pontiacs in 1977. Same with the 403 Olds base. The sheetmetal base that is riveted to the scoop is Can Am specific, and there are 2 variations. One for the W72 400 Pontiac engine, and another for the 403 Olds.

Thanks for the reply Canamman, it is a Pontiac motor, I have not done the PHS documentation on it yet but it is not the original motor but a 1976 455 and a 4 speed. It would have been nice to be original but I had to have it and will go to my grave with this car anyway and the 4 speed is a ton of fun.

Is this the Can Am that was on EBay in Philly a few months ago? I thought about going to look at it but then I membered I have too many unfinished projects already. What kind of shape was it in, the pictures on EBay looked good. Post a few pictures when you get a minute.

Yep that's it
Wasn't in near the condition he said it was but no surprise really. The drivers side front floor pan will need to be replaced along with the radiator support but works for now, oddly enough no other rust, rear and front quarters are rust free. It had been sitting for a very long time and the paint is pretty bad but again fine for now, it is a 20/20 car, 20 feet or 20mph it looks great, the interior has been recovered and looks good but not original. I have completely replaced ALL suspension under the car and it drives great. Apparently a younger person owned it because it had a huge amp in the trunk and they obviously didn't know anything about mechanics but I have everything all squared away now and would drive it anywhere without worry.

You’re way ahead of the game if that is the only rust.

Did you upgrade the suspension or just when with stock replacements? I’m starting to collect parts to restore my Can Am and I’m curious what you used.

I’d be interested in how they did the 4 speed conversion; I’d like to do that to my car also.
