Nobody ? That's funny because in the last 25-30 years I have seen and worked on about an equal number if not more than the black or gray. I probably should have said 70-76 and should include a few 70-72 RS noses.

I have, but they usually have a black "skin" on them.

Yeah they had black primer on them. I was just wondering because I commented on this site I believe about repairing them. Aircraft stripper actually melts the material back together. It won't fix large places but it's amazing how well it does on the hairline cracks these usually have and some medium sized imperfections. Of course I was immediately told that I did not know what I was talking about; they were all black, stripper will ruin them blah blah blah.

The stripper will puff up the black rubber.

I was talking about using it on the orange, the black does not seem to like it and the gray seems to be unaffected.

Once you've got all the paint and primer off coat it with aircraft stripper and keep it wet, a hot sunny day helps but you need to keep it wet with stripper. It will look like hell but after 3-4 hours clean it off, I used thinner and rags. Block the whole thing starting with 80 or 100 grit then 150. Shoot 3 coats of DP40 on it, put it in the sun for week or so and sand with 220 wet. When you get ready to paint reduce some DP and seal then paint. The one on my 71 has been done for about 25 years and looks like new.

DP40, hmm I don't have much of the Battleship paint left and only the navy can get the good stuff anymore ( or the Nuke plants)
whats available now is the DPLF40... ( lead free.... oh joy.....)
I haven't tried LF on these noses. does it flatten out? Must be its good filler primer then?

Sorry, yeah lead free DP works too. In this application it's not really being used as a "primer-surface". If the prep on the urethane is good it's just for filling very fine scratches. If you wanted you could probably just continue with finer paper on the urethane and cut out the DP then sand step.
