Default 63 V8 Rubber Motor Mounts

I purchased a black rubber roller that is used on boat trailers. They are available in different sizes but measure the thickness of your original rubber mount and cut a section of the roller to fit. Worked for me on my '62 V8 conversion.

The round ones are for the four cyl, I believe. Ames does have the ones for tempest 8 which are not the same as full size

Google the 4-5 digit # that is on the rubber of your old one. I don't think that I paid more than $10 on line. I think that I still have one if you can't find the #? John

Found them online at Summit and Oreillies for $8 each, Anchor brand. Will see if my local Oreillies can get them in today, no shipping. Pioneer makes them also. Must be a common mount because this was way easier than I thought. Thanks all.

Default motor mounts

The parts manual shows the 1963 Tempest (T8) V8 motor mounts, both sides, as part number #9772120. It gives a different number for all the rest of the 1963 (P/8) V8 cars: #9780423. I don't know what the differences are, does anyone know? It does show the 4 cylinder engine as having different left and right side mounts.

Default Internet research

After a quick internet search, it looks like there are motor mounts available for the 326 ci engine in a 1963 Tempest. RockAuto lists Them as "DEA 2204" for the left side and DEA 2205 for the right side. Both are priced at $7.73 each. Those part numbers are also listed for several other Pontiac applications from GTO's to 421 Catalinas. The original mounts must have been spec'ed close enough that only one reproduction set can fit all application today. ????

GTO's are totally different. The bolt runs horizontal through the mount. B bodies and F bodies are similar. Mike

Default Wrong

Mike is correct, the later engine models are attached to the frame pad with a long, horizontal bolt. The 63 models use a shorter vertical bolt. The DEA 2204 &2205 use the vertical bolt.

I used that TAB to attach a tether (safety strap) on my 61 and 63. A 421 sd does have a little torque. Had two chevy's in my life break a motor mount. They probably went to a cable throttle linkage because of it. The motor would rock up-pulling the throttle wide open. With mechanical trans. linkage would down shift and with wide open throttle-No Way would brakes stop the car. Saw a lady put a car thru the glass front of a furniture store once. You can't put the car in neutral cause the linkage is jammed. Gotta turn off the key. No wonder I have white hair.

The replacement motor mounts are now L/R because they are inter-locking. John

Yep. Drivers side is trying to lift. Passenger side is getting pushed down. Mike
