1000% true. I'll try and get a pic of the car this spring. Its the most stupid thing I've seen at a car show.

Please do your fellow enthusiasts that are parked next to you a favor and don't
bring some big sign on an easel for the wind to blow into their fender. If you want to
tell people about your car put the pics and info in a photo album or binder and place it in your
open trunk so it can't blow away. Big signs on easels are for twenty by twenty displays at
Autorama and have no business at an outdoor show. I go to a car show to look at the cars
not a bunch of signs. I would prefer to find out about a particular car that interests me
by talking to the owner rather than reading a giant sign. I've witnessed a lot of cars damaged
by signs in the wind at outdoor shows and such damage is totally unnecessary.

I had this stand and display board made for my 79 RS Camaro a few years ago. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the company that made it. I do remember they are out of Florida. I will do some searching and see if I can find the company info on this. It cost me like $220.00. Then I painted the stand to match the car.

I could never see having a 'Billboard sign' sitting in front of a car. Too easy for the wind or some klutz to knock it over into your car of the guy's next to you. I've seen that happen many times. Just a simple binder with photos works for most. Personally, it just something someone will ruin or it'll disappear. To me the car itself says it all.

I've always gotten by with an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper taped inside the rear window where a factory window sticker would have been located, listing the general information for the car - make, model, year, drivetrain, options, and any special features. Nowadays it's simple to come up with something that's easy to read and attractive on any computer. I seem to win as many trophies as any of the guys who have the big display boards.

Whatever you use, make sure everything is spelled correctly and use proper grammar. Poorly formatted display information drives me nuts even more than the crying babies and stuffed animals.

Here's a great example from last year's Co-Vention in Dayton. Its got a really nice design and contains all of the pertinent information in a clean, concise format. I've seen some versions that are so packed with text it looked like a mini version of "War and Peace" (I skip over those).

I purchased two signs similar to that shown in post #8 in late July/August last year (2013). I filled the base with river gravel for weight. They work very well.

You can print out whatever you want on regular paper and put it underneath the clear acrylic. I printed out on an 11x17inch and trimmed the margins to make it fit. They are very stable and are molded plastic and doesn't have sharp edges to scratch your car should a klutz walk by.

Here's the one my sign man did up for me. IIRC it's 10x20 and has a unique stand that uses a small section of galvanized pipe. Easy to take apart and fit into the trunk or back seat.

I did this sign when I used to show my car. Now it just sits in the garage collecting dust. I never saw a reason to add a picture of your car onto the sign, when your car is sitting right there?

That picture of your car at the mall gives me nightmares. Our club did that
in the early nineties and even though we had stanchions around the cars most of the
cars were damaged including my GTO. Parents would let their children climb over and under
the stanchions and swing on them like monkey bars at the playground. A guy in our club
had $ 4,000.00 damage to his 68 Firebird 400 when a kid took a running leap at the stanchions
knocking them all into the side of his car. My car got a mystery dent in the stainless molding
at the top of the windshield......it looked like it was hit by a golf ball. I had to buy a replacement as it was too mangled to be repaired. One of the cars was keyed ....this was
all under the noses of security guards who were supposedly guarding the cars.

Our local Camaro club did a show like that at the mall. Everyone with a car rotated in/out during mall hours over the weekend to monitor the display. Looking back, it seems that it was more trouble than it was worth...

I was there near the car the whole time, opening to closing. I did have to make some of the kids get away from my cars.
It was a show for DARE put on by the National Guard, one of our members was in the Guard and was the one in charge of the show. We managed to get out of there with no damage to any cars.

What we did for our cars (and need to redo again due to wear/tear/rain) is a horizontal frame that we have setting on the ground in front of (and supported by) the front bumper.

No fear of blowing off/over and damaging my car or an adjacent car. Small enough that as Jeff H. posted that you need to look closely, but large enough that you don't need your glasses.

In the one below, we used some of the original 1949 Cadillac brochure images, a brief write up of our history with the vehicle (in this case, my father (pictured with car) purchased the car in 1958) and I have a vintage photo (circa 1959/60) of the car at my dad's parents house with my younger brother, my older sister and me standing on the roof picking apples.



This was the last time my dad saw his car - a car club in the Twin Cities had a little members only car show at the assisted living facility that my dad was at on Father's Day in 2001. I contacted the club president and asked if I could bring our Caddy Limo - and of course he said yes.

My dad was so proud to show off his Caddy to the staff and fellow residents that day. It was his last Father's Day.

The church that I belong to has added a car show to the annul picnic as a fund raiser. Our space is somewhat limited and on a nice weather day we expect 250 or more cars. Some of the early arrivals (the ones who are there for the trophys) ask, some demand, two spaces so they can set up their displays. Our position is if you want two spaces you pay two entry fees. We have had some leave in a huff after demanding their money back. Usually by the end of the day I've had it with people in general, but, the ones leaveng who tell us what a good time they had and how they will be back next year keep us going.
