1972 TRANS AM RALLY II RIMS
I admit to being out of touch with parts values but would any one care to speculate on the value of these 4 original NOV.71 build car..in an earlier thread I did confirm the rim number and dates..and yes they would need to be blasted and painted, trim rings & center caps replaced... thanks!!!

Not sure what the dates are on rims? All matching set brings most for those.

What condition are the lug holes in? I need a couple of replacements as mine are worn out. I may be interested in the set.

Generally you're looking at $400 - $500 per rim, no major damage, unrestored. You'll pay closer to the top end when buying a matched set.
Mezzo, your rims can probably be repaired for less than it would cost to replace them. |

Can you guys recommend any one to repairs rims? I have a local wheel shop in Highland Park, IL that I may visit today to get an idea of what they can do.

1972 RALLY II
these are some detail shots of the rim..the worst rust kinda rubs off..others are better than the worst..note the GM sticker...even though you can not see it...that has to add extra value!!!!

RALLY II PAINT JOB
I always liked how the early Rally IIs were painted...I do not know what year they changed but my 1976 T/A had just the spokes sprayed...no fine masking at the edges and dull trim rings...little things like that are noticeable...were the early and late Rally 2 using the same colour grey insert, or did that change??...when did they get cheap with the paint operations???

Correct color for Rally II's is REALLY subjective...... At your next Pontiac car show....start looking at Rally wheels....there will be a dozen restored GTO's and Firebirds with "correct" color Rally II's and no two will be the exact same color....

They can't be all the same. The outer hoop in the one picture was assembled in '72.

I'm thinking that the one with the GM p/n tag is a Service Replacement part rather than assembly line installed?

SR T/A
I did say the owners husband worked at the dealer and the car was maintained there...I will post the $5K receipt she gave me...dated Sept 11, 1985 (weird?)...says something like 1972 TRANS AM and trunkfull of parts!!!...all N.O.S. stuff...the best was a new 1972 H.O.intake manifold, choke, throttle cable, parking lenses(amber)console & lid,etc.!!...anyway you are probably right about the rim...I have the Service Replacement TRANS AM!!!!..I will have to check every rim..but I am certain that was the only oddball...I thought it strange with the sticker but cool how it is still on!!!...I did not save the photo(can retake it) but early on in my thread(page #1) there is a photo I took of one of the front springs with a tag still on it..I cannot read what it says but is that normal?...did springs have tags for the assembly line workers??

Sometimes you'll find the parts number label, especially on spare wheel rims since they were hardly used and many times still have the original tires.
I am able to repair wallowed out lug holes but am currently busy with a number of customer's rally wheels. |

SPARE
my car did not come with a spare...but I will check that rim with the tag more closely as someone says it has a date of 1972...car was built NOV. 71 so most likely a SR...what type of spare would my car have come with??..on the other hand I got the car so long ago if it had a spare on a plain rim I may have discarded it to make room..on the other hand all the spare parts were in the trunk so I really do not remember..it does have the jack that is in very nice shape and a blue painted base...all of the jack mounting hardware is welded to the inside of the trunk so is that not a way to tell...no space saver spare option on the P.H.S...now I will have to look for jack part numbers...more Indiana Jones research!!!..thanks everyone!!!...my lug holes are fine, I think MEZZO has the walled out holes?!!...actually I got a real nice set of Honeycomb 15X7 from P.Y. member EDVISME that I prefer over the RALLY 2s..I believe she did not go for Honeycombs for fear of them being stolen..Bayonne & Jersey City N.J. was filled with the hood even 40 + years ago!!!

According to the 1972 Pontiac Selling Facts and Accessorizer, dated Aug 31/71......
Trans ams came standard with 15" Rally II's and white letter tires.... As I recall,Honeycombs were a no cost option....as there is no price given for them on Trans ams.... Your spare should have matched what was on the rest of the car,as I understand it.... N65 Spacesaver tire was listed as a $15.30 option but states that it was NOT available with Rally II or Honeycomb wheels........ SO....anybody out there have N65 listed on their 72 Trans am PHS or build sheet?
