Default 70 SSJ Engineering Development Car

Interesting car recently sold at the Daytona Turkey Rod Run:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pontiac-Gran...US_Cars_Trucks

Check the build sheet from Pontiac Engineering....very interesting car that's seriously rusted.

Engineering had it for 5 months - wonder what they did with it?

Had to be something in conjunction with Hurst (paint schemes, Auto-Stick shifter fit, line lock install, other Hurst-proposed options, etc). No reason Pontiac would have that car back for any more standard engineering...

Sad that this particular one ended up in such poor condition.

It deserves a restoration, unfortunately the cost will far exceed it's value.

Love to find an engineer or other staff that worked in Pontiac Engineering at Milford Proving Grounds during the '70-71 time frame.

Most restorations do. This '70 is in far better condition than this rare '72 was.

Not sure what's going on with that shifter arrangement, or that 8-track unit. Looks homemade to me, but it could have been a Pontiac engineering exercise. Hard to say who has done what to it after 44 years...

Still thinking that Pontiac may have been working with Hurst to try out the Auto-Stick or other SSJ options.

I'm leaning more toward homemade because that 70 is wearing the 71-72 emblems on the console. I doubt if Pontiac or Hurst had those emblems at that time. Also, Pontiac engineering would have probably designed a better fit and finish to that entire console assembly. It does have a homemade vibe to it.

Probably would need to contact the early owners to get the full story on this one.

Considering we believe the other 70 SSJ sold for around 25K, I thought $6500.00 seemed like a lot for the condition of this one

I would have taken the $6500 and run. That car, while interesting, is going to be a huge headache to get right...

Agreed, But boy that makes the last car seem like a deal for 25k, doesn't it
