Default seat belt details...

This may sound off the deep end but...

What is the correct anchoring pattern of seat belts (rear or center front)?

Every untouched car, by memory, I have worked on had the following patterns:

1... date tags always face down

2...buckle side (female) always inboard

3...center seat (front and rear) are always bolted under (directly on floor pan) the out board belts

4...buckle (female) side of center seats is on passenger side

I find the last one counter intuitive since it would be better for the driver (of a bench seat car) to not have two buckles (usually adjusted to different lengths) together. I reverse it on my bench cars for that reason.

Has anyone seen the same pattern in untouched cars? or have you seen otherwise?

Sounds like a silly detail but I guess the rear center belts should be the right way for judging...no?

Even more nutty... which way should the rear ashtray cans be... extinguisher inboard or outboard?

What I remember about the ashtrays was the extinguisher inboard or closest to you.
