Default '78 photo needed

Could someone who still has a factory set-up with a 78 auto and cruise control post some photos of the brackets needed for cruise and the kickdown cable? My '78 is missing these items and I need to know what to look for. Thanks in advance!

Did you check the factory service manual for pics....?

Might be worth a try...

Arrow 1978 Pontiac Service Manual - Chapter 9 Accessories

If you are still looking for information, I ran across this earlier and remembered your OP Q. Hope it helps.

In the 1978 Pontiac Service Manual, information you may be seeking is in the "Accessories" Chapter 9.

Look for Fig. 9-19 Cruise Master Transducer and Servo Mounting - 400 V8-F Series. It includes 4 sub-illustrations for upper/lower cables, etc.

Also states - "Note: For 'Y' v-8 Servo see Fig. 9-17"

Also see Fig. 9-21 Engagement Switch Installation - F and X Series for column cruise details.

There is quite a bit more detailed info in other illustrations such as Vacuum Schematics, etc. all found in Chapter 9 Accessories.

The 400 engine has the servo mounted to the firewall on passenger side.

I have two of these cars with the original parts. The problem is the car that is 100% original is in deep storage. The other car has been somewhat messed with over the years, but I believe all the parts are still installed. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Does this help at all? This is from my 78 W72 Automatic car. This car is in need of a light restoration, but I know the history of it since 1985 So, I believe these are the original parts, in the original locations. Probably original hoses too?

Let me know if you need something else, as the car sits in a building right next to me at work. I have easy access to it any work day.

Don't mind the dried up spiders....

That is actually not the correct bracket for '78. I bought a complete cruise set-up off another '78 W72 car. Does anyone know if that bracket was zinc plated or black? It appears to me that it was zinc.

pretty sure they were plated with something. Mine are not painted. just oxidized & starting to rust some. My other 78 that is in storage should have a decent looking bracket & its a surviver car. I won't have that one out for a few months tho. I am pretty sure its a natural metal color.

My bracket is not rusty at all, but has a white oxidation on it, almost like aluminun oxidizes. I have seen zinc plating do that, that is why I suspect zinc plating. However, my bracket also has a black look to it in certain areas, not paint however. Looking at the black in the light it has almost a rainbow of colors, sort of like the cadmium brake booster plating does.
