Maybe mike could thake the intake and cut a section out of the middle and make it work with a custom top?

No Mike, I won't know that until the foundry see's the tooling.

Good thinking Chris!!! That might be an easier way to do it.

I just wanted to clear something up before it gets out of control. My new DCI Ram Air 5 heads do not have any casting issues PERIOD. It was brought to my attention that someone stated on another forum (not here) that my new heads are having casting issues. THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE MY NEW 5 CASTINGS PERIOD. I do not know how that got started or who started it, but my new castings look like jewelry compared to anything out there. Ask anyone who seen them at Norwalk's Pontiac Nationals last year. I spec'd out the absolute purist and best 356A aluminum that money can buy for these new heads. So please if you here anyone passing that roomer around. Tell them that it is absolutely without a doubt a LIE. In our little community news travels fast, and I have worked really hard to make sure this product will be the best it can be. Sorry about the little rant, but I'm like a female LION or Bear protecting their young when it comes to this.

I just received these pic's from the machine shop of the new chamber design we just implemented. As soon as we test these and make sure they QC okay. We will machine the rest of the castings and be ready to take orders. Maybe as soon as the end of next week.

For those of you that don't know and for the ones that may have forgotten, this isn't DCI's first rodeo. I know first hand that quality is at the top of the list with these heads.

When they are ready for to take orders, you will not see corners being cut to save a buck.

Thanks guy's for your support!! I'm really excited about finally getting this project done. We are real close now and should have completed heads in a couple of weeks(Keeping my fingers crossed). The intake drawings are completed now as well and the next step is getting the tooling done for them. So I am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel!!!! I know that people get frustrated with the length of time it takes to do a project of this magnitude, and BELIEVE ME. No one wants to get it done faster than I do. Making a cylinder head from scratch is way more complicated than anyone can imagine. Until you have done it yourself, you have no idea the amount of road blocks that come up and you have to over come. Not to mention the expense of a project at this level. I know I have said it before, but I cannot express to you enough the amount of gratitude I have for all of your patients. So please help support my efforts and pass the word about the new DCI Ram Air 5 heads. I need sales so I can continue bringing more products to market.

Thanks Again,
Don Johnston

Don,

They look great , can't wait to start to see some combos put together !! And no center exhaust valve heat to worry about real nice .

Just wondering and I am sure you have enough to do already , any thoughts on headers?

Maybe at a latter date?

Thank you.

This way we can use anything from a single four all the way up to a blower without having to buy another intake. I put allot of meat around the ports for porting too. Remember I am trying to keep it low to fit under the hood of most cars. We got our initial height measurements from a 1967 Firebird with a factory cast iron intake and a stock 400 hood. I believe that is the tightest under hood configuration we have in the Pontiac body line up. I am also going to add some internal features around the port openings as well, but they are not yet in place in these pic's. You will see on one of the end runners that I am adding bosses for fuel injection or nitrous as well.

Will this intake have provisions for fuel injection (like injector bosses in the runners)? or will there be another design down the road for FI? I am dreaming about a twin turbo, fuel injected, RA5 headed setup down the road for my T/A

Thanks

I am working with Mad Dog headers in Michigan for the headers. He is excited about starting a new product line and welcomed it with open arms. He currently has RA5 headers for early F-bodies, but nothing for A-bodies yet. Although he is going to have to make a few alterations for my heads because I raised the exhaust port about a 1/2".

The intake is going to have fuel injector bosses cast on it. So fuel injection or even nitrous is no problem. If you look back one page at post #448 you can see pic's of the intake. Only one runner has the boss on it in those pic's, but it will give you a good idea what it will look like.

The ram air 5 cylinder head platform opens up so many different possibility's. I just start day dreaming for hours about it LOL.

I predict that I will need one intake and three lids for different carb combinations. Not quite sure what your plans are Don, but it would be great if the intake lids had a recess for sideways mounted linkage that would cover any combination of carb. Tall order I know, but think big, then think reality.

If you want, I can cut prototypes of the lids for carb bolt spacing and options...
