Hey Baron,

After spending $600 with McCarty for intake port work alone you’d expect it would be good to go for the intended application. For your guys running at least 25lb of boost with a basic single plane what mods have you performed on the plenum?

Here is what it currently looks like.


As for the chassis, the drivetrain is in its final position with engine and trans mounts done, lower firewall has been cut back to make room for the exhaust and the front bars are done. Turbo and intercooler piping next as well as seeing if the all steel frontend sheet metal can be removable. With the poor header design, it will be a B!%$h to work on.

JMO but $600 don't buy you much in porting work in todays market.

Does the work done fit the intended application? If it does, great!

Basically looks like he just cleaned up the wall surface finish and made sure that everything had a nice radiused entry.
With a large flow EFI type manifold and Boost you don't really need much more.

yeh i remember it was just an intermediate level gasket match with some quick hasty blending. Maybe $100 or so worth of labor. For only $600 - groovy man.

Not that its crippling anything -
was just wondering if you improved on it any.


You still have those original guide plates and rocker arms ?

I still have the guide plates, there in a tool box somewhere, crane energizers rockers are gone. Replaced almost the entire valve train when the engine was redone, running T&D now. They make a really nice piece.

Ed, We going to see that thing this year at the Nationals? I hope so!!! I know you have working hard at it and I'm sure you will be really glad to have it completed. T&D does nice work and the fit is excellent. Are those steel rockers or aluminum?

I hope so too, it's still to early to tell though. The T&D rockers are steel, they did a really nice job lining things up and turn around time was pretty quick.

Rockers do look great - hmmm - BTW - I was wondering why the list of vendors in your signature line - given the grief they have caused you ????

If your interested Ed. I just bought a super 400 hood from a member here, and we are going to make some changes to it. Once we get the hood the way we think it should look and get a little more room under it. We are going to start making and selling them. The hood right now looks pretty awesome, but there is still not enough room to fit a Victor with a 2" spacer. So we are going to raise it up some more and smooth the transition around the scoops to make it look more like the factory hood. I'll post some pic's after we get it modified in another thread once we get it done.

Ed i remembered you replaced about everything on the heads except the valves.
Was curious if you still had those funny farm pieces hanging around as souvenirs.

The guide plates would make some real conversation pieces worn on a neck chain at ANY type of car event .


Do you ever have thoughts about buying some Bird V headers and dropping the V engine in your Z/28 to get some NA seat time and shakedown during the Bird build ?
That could be a lotta Fun in the meantime .

Front suspension is all Smith RaceCraft, haven't picked up front shocks yet, waiting on Jeff K to give me a call

After posting pictures of the "guide plates" a joint task force made up of the DOT, ICE, NTSB and Dept. of Home Land Security raided my residence in order to secure what they termed as a “shrapnel for an internal combustion device”. I was however able to keep them after an explosives ordinance team determined that they weren't a threat to national security.

With regard to N/A headers for the RA-V and putting it in the Camaro, that would depend on who's fabricating them.
