Default chevelle to gto tilt column swap

Hey Guys I did a quick search and didn't get a good answer(if it has been covered, please point me in right direction).

Anyway, if I have a 71 Chevelle column shift tilt column, and a 69 Lemans non tilt floor shift column, can parts be swapped to make either a Pontiac column shift, of floor shift tilt column.

Just curious if possible and could be used without trouble.

thanks Chris

You should be able to bolt either column into either one of the cars but
you will need the correct ignition switch to finish the conversion. Also the
tilt and turn levers and shift levers are different between the Chevelle and
the lemans. Turn signal switch should be the same if you don't have cornering
lamps on either car.

ok thanks, what I was wondering was if I could put the tilt mechanism from chevy column into Pontiac column, or possibly take Pontiac floor shift collar and put on chevy tilt column shift column?

I understand that I'll have to use a Pontiac tilt column ignition switch.

I don't have the chevy tilt column yet, but I know of one for sale locally and was wondering if was worth the trouble or if even possible to do a conversion.

Chris

The collars are different between tilt and non tilt so you can't use the floor shift non tilt collar in place of the column shift tilt collar. If you're really creative you can grind the column shift tilt collar flat to remove the lever nub and fill it smooth, I've seen that done before, but sure is a lot of work to make it look nice.

I'm not really looking for either, just wanted to know if anyone has tried to make one work from a non Pontiac column. looks like the big thing is the Pontiac tilt column ignition switch.
