Where is this '73 SD now?

Is that a real SD? I remember seen one that color combo back in early 2000's for sale in the Houston area, it was a Y-code w/a SD455 in it. Very nice car, I was gonna buy it, but I never got the time to go inspected.

Bluebird I think this is the one you're thinking of. It was a y-code 4 spd with a carb to pan SD in it. I owned it from '96 to 2000. I bought it from Larry Navarro, he built the motor. Think he bought it in the early 90's. It was affectionatly referred to as the "Houston Whore" because it passed through many hands in this area. Last I heard it was in AZ.

That sure looks like it, If I recall correctly, It was listed on Autotrader? I really wanted to go look at it on the weekend, but when I called It was already sold. still to this day I wish I would have bought it.

Has anyone used ARP rod bolts for rebuilding factory 455 SD rods?If so was there any issue with the rolled threads of the ARP bolts?Tom

I used ARP bolts on mine. Didnt note any issues. SD rods used a non traditional pontiac part # for the bolts.

How may of you still own unrestored survivor cars ? And what do you consider to be a survivor car ?

bluebird...........I bought that car in 1993 from a fellow who lived around the s.e. dallas area. I had done a little bit of work to it and later sold it to Paul in '96. From then it changed hands quite a few times in the Houston area, then was sold again to someone in Arizona. The whereabouts are unknown. Speculation would be the engine could have been pulled and placed in a missing engine X-code SD, or still running around out west somewhere. It was a service replacement engine with 132 block and all the SD hardware. With an H-O racing HC-63 cam, 4 speed and 3:90 gears, on a "no options" car, it was a beast.

Larry, I had a feeling that it was your old car from previous threads I've seen. Very nice, It really looked good on the pics posted. I think it was going for the low $20k's. Arrrgh!!

I think I own one of what you'd call unrestored survivor, but I guess everybody has their own opinion. My car has always been a driver, it has been used every year since June of 1973. Its always been driven 2,000 miles a year or less on sunny days. Things started to go bad like the car developed a exhaust manifold leak, so headers were put on in place. That's the one major changes I did to my car, I made that change about 10 years ago and have regretted it. Other than that I drive around a car with checked paint, the front bumper has chipped/flaked paint. Is that considered unrestored survivor? In my opinion yes. I fight the urge to restore it every year.

I know this is not a Pontiac.
my dad has my grandfathers 76 New Yorker Brougham(SP). as far as we know the only things that were changed were the tires when one developed an broken belt. he had a shop rotate the tires and they X'd them like the old bias ply not front to rear like should have been done with the new radial tires, causing the belts to break. I will have to look, but believe less than 40,000 miles, still looks like new, inside and out. sadly worth more for the 440 than being a great car.

personally I think so and I wouldn't restore or repaint it. day two stuff has never bothered me. I actually like some of it

My brother has a 75 TA with probably under 40,000 miles on it. About 30 years ago my dad tried taking the dealer sticker off of the spoiler and ruined the paint, so the back of the spoiler got repainted. While there, they blacked out the chrome around the windows. Years later I knew of a guy that had a later TA that was repainted the same color and had louvers on the back window. So I talked to him about swapping chrome since black would match his louvers and we did. The only thing I regret is that there was paint overspray on some of his chrome that I didn't have anything to clean it off with, so my brothers car still shows that. One of these days I'll snag it from him remove the chrome and clean it up correctly.

that red 4 speed was for sale in Cincinnati last fall. i tried to buy it, the guy wanted 10,000 for it and a guy from Michigan was suppose to have put a down payment on it. never heard back from him and I lost his number.

it did have a Moser narrowed 12 bolt, was white with black like they say, was a dealer ran S/S car back in the day and was suppose to have held several records in the day. every who bought it, has cut it up from the pictures he sent me and taken parts off (rear end rims and slicks)and trying to flip it for more money. it was to the point you could have put a motor in it and ran it at the track.
