Wow, lots got done today. I have been working to get my jack and spare correct and refinished, and that is done. It may not be totally correct, but it's got to be close, and it is done. 70RAlll turned me on to a place in Colorado that does cad plating and they did a great job. Aero Propeller is the name. Everything else got media blasted, repainted, blah,blah. Norwood supplied the correct J-hook hold down. It looks good. It's off the mission creep list. I am happy.

....and the doors got wet sanded and buffed out. Another Wow. The doors were pretty sketchy looking. Lots of scratches, blemishes, and I have no idea what they were, but these circular bumps about 1/64" high by 1/32" in diameter. I mean probably 30 or 40 on each door. They sucked trying to get them sanded out, but ultimately they were eradicated. We followed the same process as was used on the front end. 2000 grit, 3000 grit, 5000 grit, rubbing compound, swirl remover, ultrafine finishing polish and Wolfgang paint sealant. The doors were worse than the front end since you had to deal with the full length body side molding, the door handle and lock, and the belt line molding. Too bad I hadn't grown my wet sanding balls while the handles and lock were off.
I am glad that is done. Well worth it, but not much fun. Here's some pictures.

Bob.. that Jack sure looks good.Love the gold cadmium plating vs the zinc many use. Got some pictures around here of a 18k RAIV survivor's jack that looks almost identical in color/sheen. sweet work you are doing Bob, car is really looking good..

How did you sand/polish the rocker moldings? Aren't they anodized aluminum? |

I only sanded very specific areas that had nasty scratches to limit the removal of the anodizing. Limited removal was better than leaving the gouges. I worked up from 800 grit. After that I used auto polish from course to ultrafine, metal polish, and last a coat of carnauba wax.
I almost forgot to add that i had to scrub them down with Brake kleen first to get all the GM plastic wrap residue off. That probably took longer than anything else. |

I have a similar set that I bought years ago that has that same semi-permanently attached GM plastic tape junk on them.

Those F60s Polyglas tires are only good for display. They do look really nice but they ride like crap.

Really? I drove on mine for over ten hours with no problems to Dayton. Roads suck worse than tire ride mostly...

More wet sanding....
Last night I decided to tackle the worst panel on the Black Car - the trunk lid. Although the scratching was not so bad, the trunk had the worst damage from acid rain, looking almost leopard like in terms of the number of spots. It was entirely covered. I followed the same process that has been used on the rest of the car, but due to the depth of the acid rain etching I had to sand it twice with the 2000 grit paper. The results are amazing. All of the spots are gone. Completely gone. The bad news is that now you see more prominently the 3 or 4 small paint chips and imperfections that cannot be sanded out. I'll take that trade. Only the roof and rear quarters remain to be polished. Here are the before and after pictures.
