Yes, it's a survivor with 71,000 miles. All factory paint except for the right door.

The car looks amazing.....hard to believe the paint still looks that good. My
GTO had already been painted when I bought it in 1971. You have reason to be proud of how well you have cared for it....both thumbs up as Roger Ebert used to say!

Just received word this afternoon that the October issue will be the last, meaning there will be one more than we were inititially told, so there is a glimmer of good news in an otherwise sad story.,

That's really good news for the guys who have cars who will be featured in that issue.
Personally I've been waiting since January to see my car in the September issue. I can't even imagine waiting 6 months to see my car in print only to have the magazine scratched in the 11th hour. My sympathies to the people who were to be in the November and beyond issues.

That IS good news as the final GTO showcased will be the 1974's.

Yessir, looks like you are correct, forgot your '72 is in the next issue...to bad HPP didn't make it to the '74s - the final GTO w a Pontiac engine but at least there will be a '73 "the last A-Body GTO" featured issue.

Tough, tough times for magazines these days.

I was a little miffed when I last renewed HPP and MCR and the renewal did not go through and I never saw my magazines.

Still, I love MCR. HPP I liked.

When is the last time you saw a kid pouring over car mags or comic books?

Different times.

I am in my mid 40s.

I grew up listening to records, just like my parents and grandparents. Even my great grands if you count 78s.

We all had to use maps.

We all needed to use payphone and grew up with phones on cords.

We all had to use encyclopedias. Another business that must be about dead.

We all read comics when we were kids.

We all poured over magazines, and go fast parts ads.

Something happened,
people over 40 had a ton in common with the parents, grands, great grands, etc.

People under 35 or 30 or so and way less in common with the past generations.

Don, do you have any indication of which remaining stories are in and which ones are out? I'm hoping the SSJ feature Chris, Steve, Casey, and I worked on gets in under the wire...

I can only speak for my own stories but I will call Chris to see what he knows about the articles being discussed here. Hope for the best but don't expect it.

So, what do you guys think of me finishing off the GTO history in Smoke Signals? I was working on the '74 edition when the call came. It was never submitted to HPP so I can do whatever I want with it.

Plus, we have a '74 feature that Scott Scheel wrote for the November issue that he graciously offered to us to use in Smoke Signals. So some of HPP's spirit will live on in Smoke Signals.

Great idea Don. Put the '74 edition in SS. Speaking of living on...ever thought of doing something like a Pavement Pounders Shootout for Smokes? I, along with many others, thought that was a cool part of HPP.

I got my copy of HPP today in the mail, I am one of the unlucky ones who will most likely be receiving a 3 year subscription to Honda tuners or what ever they stick me with. I have been renewing HPP that way (three years at a time) for around 9 years. Big lesson learned.

I was pleased to see your Goat in the issue. I have read about it so much it was nice to see it in the magazine. I came on here to tell you congrats! and saw this thread. I had no idea about the cancelation of the magazine. Very sad. Maybe the folks who worked it could band together and start their own Pontiac publication. I for one would subscribe. I'm sure the folks who advertised in it don't really care who runs it.

Don, Smoke Signals has always been my favorite Pontiac mag. Perhaps because it includes ads for cars and parts. But usually interesting content too. I subscribed to and still have every issue of GTO/Pontiac Enthusiast, it was very good especially in the beginning. I have subscribed to HPP off and on over the years. I get The Legend too. But Smokes the one I will read first.

I would applaud putting the '74 story in Smokes. I would also suggest, if it could be arranged, run the rest of them too, maybe in reverse order. Surely lots of folks getting Smokes did not subscribe to HPP. If HPP is kaput, perhaps the publisher would grant permission?

I also like the idea of bolstering the content in Smokes.

And finally, the time is ripe to go after HPP subscribers who aren't POCI members to induce them to join if for no other reason than to get Smokes. Especially if you can add some content that is being lost by the demise of HPP. Just a thought.

PS - Got my HPP yesterday, great story Bill. And sharp GTO. Love the old car wash pic you posted too.
