Default Glass date codes. Ever bother checking??

Something I have never paid attention to until doing some research on a friends car is glass date codes. I have owned my Trans am's for many years & I never thought to even check, nor did I really care to be honest.

Just curious what you guys might find.

I looked at two of my cars today.

This is what I found in the 1979 T/A
car was built February 1979
all glass dated XA (Feb 1979) no surprise, However the windshield is dated LC, march of 1976. How could that be? I keep in contact with the previous owner of the car & he claims its the original windshield. Could GM have really installed a windshield made 2.5 years earlier? seems unlikely, but also seems strange that someone would install a used windshield in the car. It looks like original urethane sealant, so I am just not sure, but I am confused.

My 78 is also a survivor car.

Built in March 22 1978
side windows at XJ (February 1978)
T-tops & back window LJ (March 1978)
Windshield XA (February 1979) uuhhh-oooo

(Damn, zero for two on what I thought were original windshields after all these years)

AS1 - Windshield Glass
AS-2 - All other glass
EZI - Soft-Ray Tinted
LOF - Libby, Owen, Ford

Safety-Plate = Original
Safety-Float = Replacement

Date code should appear after "LAMINATED" as 2 letters, MY

On my Sept. 78 built '79 the windshield, door glass and tops are TJ (Aug.78) The back glass is AJ (Sept.78). All are Safety-Float?

Did yours really say safety float? The info I posted above I just cut & pasted from another website. I think my glass is all "safety flo-lite", but did have what appeared to be the same date code structure.

Not your fault.

I made the post & copied the info over. I was feeding you the verbiage.
