They ALL can't be M22's with Y99,....but that dash is just begging for MORE round holes... Stiil a VERY nice car.....guess the rear spoiler was a "dealer install"?

I'm not sure on stripe yet? At least it was factory. That's a cause for the viewing alone.
Dealer added wheel well molding, spoiler, and formula steering wheel do add. No gauges does take away, and exhaust a little wonky...

really gives that FORMULA a road racer edge.(very cool how the rear light bezels are painted to match the stripe)..but the biggest plus that car has is its a 455 H.O. with functional Ram Air!!...that alone is the price of admission..damn nice options..its a TRANS AM without the TRANS AM...they sell the brand new gauges that would be an added bonus if the new owner may feel he really needs them... (I need a new tach./clock...$299 ouch!)...that's no dealbreaker in my eyes...455 HIGH OUTPUT tips the scales no matter what!

![]() I don't know if the stripe gives it much more? To me spoiler, 15 wheels, and correct exhaust do more? But do agree Sundance 455 HO RA does make it sweet! But I'm bias....

you know I did not even notice the rims or exhaust (I have an xtra set of tailpipes & chrome extensions you can have !)...it does have unique deluxe cloth,a/c is nice & that 455 H.O. with functional RAM AIR!!...your car looks great too though...but the stripe really sells it to me...but the fact that it has the H.O. option really is a bit over the top..TRANS AMs came standard with the 455 H.O....the fact that someone checked off that option really is something...and the 2nd fact is you then got that fantastic hood that actually functions...too me that really is a big deal...I know if I had a FORMULA with that hood I would really want those scoops to scoop!..I am not even certain how they work...is there a pull switch?...but I do know that it is quite a set up..special (& expensive) air cleaner, those rubber boots, the grille openings...I mean that was the hood that was originally planned for the TRANS AM...and to top it all off (so to speak) 455 H.O. decal on the air cleaner to let you know what engine you have in case you or anyone was not sure!!

The Ram Air air cleaner was the key to the whole program.....non-ram air formula's had the hoodscoops closed....and could easily be opened up with a jigsaw to replicate what the factory did.

They used a rough jigsaw cut. If you go back to my initial black car thread you'll see how I replicated the holes on an NOS Formula hood that I installed on the black car.
If you find a hood with the cutouts flush and sanded smooth, then it was opened up at a later date. The assembly line "opened" hood inlets were erratically cut with a 1/8" to 1/4" ridge around the opening. |

Mike - we're all waiting on details? How did the car look and drive?

The car was very presentable and sounded great. Paint was single stage and was very good. Interior was clean and only one rear panel wasn't cloth. It was black it had comfort weave.
I didn't drive it. I was offered a chance but declined. I check out engine bay and saw the work ahead. Needed complete intake up redo, and the parts stated as original were not all correct or dated to car. Distributor and carb were SR at best. Didn't climb around looking at numbers. AC cars don't make it easy. No lift either. Manga flow dual exhaust was a bit of a turn off, and wasn't confident the sellers rep knew much in the way of numbers, dates or cared... ![]() ![]() ![]()
Never seen a cloth/vinyl before. Not sure it's correct but clean for sure and felt good...
its absolutely correct and beyond rare, scarce, and seldom scene, especially in a 72.....better buy it just for that reason....

JUDGE273....the pics are awesome!!...see, we all learn that photos of a car on the internet and then seeing it in person can let us down..Judge,when you mentioned the seat difference..it was as if I was there looking at the car!..and when you declined to drive...so did I...thanks for taking us there...but still to see that car in person was worth it...better H.O.s ahead!!

Bentwheelbob,
The PHS looks like the car was new sold in CA, but the close up of the PHS does not show the selling dealer. Do you know where it was sold new? Judge 273, Any under hood pics? Was all the a/c stuff there? |
