First post. Hoping I'm doing correctly.........I installed an aftermarket radiator support from The Parts Place on my 68 GTO. Instead of cutting/trimming the support to use the 68 shroud I purchased a 69 shroud (as advised). Having a heck of a time figuring out how to properly mount the 69 shroud in the new radiator support. Much appreciated if anyone done this before and can provide some pointers, directions or pic's.....thanks

It should be a two peice that will come apart.

place radiator in shround with rubber insulators in place. with engine fan removed, carefully lower shroud with radiator down in place and bolt in. 4 bolts up top with slide on clips that go on the support. 2 bolts on lower support. clips look like same clips as fenderwell clips. Then hook up everything and put fan back on. Not a lot of space.

Shroud is a one piece part for 69-72. 68 is different with a plastic shroud and metal top. 68 is easier to install.

the problem youre most likely having has to do with the core support being a borderline POS....

POS may be a bit harsh, so lets just say....it's not welded together quite right.

the angle of the lower C channel isnt oriented properly to the top, thus making it all but impossible to attach the shroud. top four shroud bolts attached, you cannot bolt the lower two, and vise versa. well, you could, but your one piece shroud would then become a two piece.

a couple threads on here discussing this, one started by me, since i discovered this issue personally.

two ways to remedy this, from what i've read. bolt the support to the frame horns, then use a little muscle to bend into the proper angle. use the shroud as your guide. bend a little, test fit. repeat as needed.

other method is to drill out the spot welds of the lower channel and reweld at the proper position. if you still have your original support and its not rusted/tweaked beyond recognition, can use that as a guide.

Thank you very much......The trade off on using the 68 shroud was not wantind to cut the replacement support. When laying the shroud out to instal the radiator I realized the upper right corner of the new 69 shroud (where the rubber radiator saddle is placed) had been cut off, Figuring I must have received an un-cheched return it's being replaced. I'm still not sure what will secure the radiator at the bottom (other than the two shroud to support bolts), however, that might be obvious when I receive a replacement shroud, then I'll follow your instructions. Plenty of other stuff to do. I've got my front bumper bolted to the frame supports (frame supports are loose) and have been figuring out how to approach raising and aligning. Any advice on re-mounting the bumper?.........thanks again

the missing piece of the shroud is how all the repops were/are, afaik. the mold used for them had the defect, so while it is in fact a defect, it's a factory defect. i do not believe it compromises the integrity of the whole thing.

ames made their own shroud a few years ago, and it's really nice ( i have one ), but you pay a premium for that over the other one.

attaching the shroud/radiator to the support is painfully easy, it's literally like the guy said above, 4 bolts on top, two on the bottom. if you dont have a service or assembly manual, get them, worth every penny when it comes to seeing how things go together, especially the assembly manual.

front end sheetmetal alignment can be a royal pita to some, cakewalk for others. i'm in the "some" group, for sure not in the "others". you gotta work from the cowl forward....if youve taken it all apart.

i believe it goes a little like this - doors get set, rear of fenders set to doors, front of fenders set, then you align the bumper. oh, and dont forget to align the hood while doing it all too.

Thanks all for the advice and directions. I'm going to give the 69 shroud another try but if I foul it up I can make the 'cut' and use the 68 shroud.........thanks again
