Just installed Kauffman new aluminum heads. The driver side front of the intake has .025 gap between the head and intake. How can I fix it?

Possibility that the intake ports on that side are not sealed up either. The problem could be that the manifold was cinched down on the opposite side and the side with the gap couldn't settle in place. I'd take everything loose, apply some Ultra Gray on both sides of the gasket around the water ports, and then set it in place evenly.
Take a look at how the threaded holes in the heads align with the holes in the intake. they should be centered in the manifold holes. If you have problems with the holes being way off (like the threaded hole appears at the very top of the manifold bolt hole, then the manifold surfaces should really be milled to bring everything in line. But just try centering the manifold to start and you could be OK.

What Intake manifold are you running?
Pull the intake and gaskets off and set the Intake on the motor and make sure that the Intakes bottom edge is not sitting on the valley pan or a bit of the gasket sticking out from the valley pan. If that is not a issue than make sure that the Manifold does not rock left to right by more than .035" when checked with a feeler gauge, if it does it will be a Bitch to seal things up and likely that milling the Manifold time is in your future! If the Manifold looks like it will sit flat, but is being held up by the valve pan than that lower section of the manifold needs to be ground back and or the valley pan is shifted to the right or left. If you place some clay on the lip of the valley pan and plunck the Intake on you will very clearly see if a clearance issue is going on!

Tried pf65 and a performer. Both leaked. How much do I have to have mill off normally ?

Put a straight edge on the head side of the intake manifold and see if it is straight. I had one like this once that was bent .035". It wouldn't seal no matter how tight the customer cranked on the bolts. Since it couldn't be surfaced that much and still fit the engine, I straightened it the same way I straighten heads[through stress relief], and it went to within .005" from flat. He installed it and it never leaked again.

I backed off all the intake bolts and retighten the driver side first and no more gap .Seems ok now. Thanks for all help
|
