I got a Motor Trend. I was wondering why I got it and figured bought me a subscription like he did a few years ago. Nope, the back cover said HPP folded and I'll be getting MT as a replacement. Oh joy...NOT...

Why do these magazine companies "assume" that we would want to read just "any" automotive publication??? They haven't a clue about what is going on. Motor Trend?? I cant stand reading about newer cars. Those magazines are an ad brochure, front to rear. If I (or any of you) wanted a subscription to one of these other rags, we would have a subscription to it. I would prefer a refund. (They do it because it is easier on them, and they get to keep the money.)

If you don't like the substitute magazine, pick up the phone and call them. I've read on other web boards that numerous people have done that and switched to another magazine they preferred, or else got a refund and cancelled the whole thing.

They added 23 issues to my Motor Trend subscription. They never sent me any kind of update, if it wasn't for this Forum I'd still be looking for my November issue of HPP.

I just received the first issue of Hot Rod,which replaced HPP. I called the customer service number in HPP and had them switch my remaining 2 years to Chevy High Performance, its worth the call. There are other magazines you can change to,but i didn't ask what they were.

Got my first issue of Smoke Signals today.
I got a copy years ago and I have to say, I like the newer look of it and the outlook the editors have for the magazine. I wasn't impressed that much with it years ago, but I really like the issue I got today, and look forward to the upcoming issues which promise to be even better. Don Keefe looks like he is pouring a lot of effort into updating the magazine. Haven't received any issues of a "replacement" for HPP yet, but If I do get Hot Rod or Motor trend, I may use those magazines to mask off the windows in my Oldsmobile when I have it repainted in the Fall.

Got my HPP replacement Hot Rod in the mail today.
I called Hot Rod, canceled my subscription, asked for a refund, and pitched the magazine in the trash.

i got the hot rod issue to today. First it was GM trying to get you to buy a Buick. Same goes for Hot Rod. It's all a numbers game. Time to get my refund. I had the opportunity to be in HPP in 2002 for the Payment Pounders Series. Tom Demauro and everyone were great that day. I was able to get my 69 gto in the thirteens at englishtown with the help from my friend Ken, Jim Taylor and Mark Erny. To me, it's kind of rare to get people to help you like that and seeing that they enjoyed it.
It was also nice to seeing newer pontiacs in the mag, but that might go away with other mags. I will checkout Smoke Signals, from the suggestions in this post. Last edited by joe69judge; 08-07-2014 at 09:34 PM. Reason: misspelling |

another good point to make about HPP is that they had great tech articles. Those will be valuable to the person restoring their car or researching them.

After I received my issue of Hot Rod I called the subscription service and asked that my balance be applied to Circle Track Magazine, they said no problem it would take 4-6 weeks for me to start receiving Circle Track.
If there is another magazine besides Hot Rod you'd rather receive the switchover for me was painless, now to see if it goes through without a hitch. |

I had no problems making the switch. Its too bad that there wasn't one more issue of HPP to cover the 1974 Gto's. |
