It's surprising how pitted the axle tubes are for such a fine underside - what gives?

So the exhaust system is done, the gas tank has been installed and the car is once again alive. The exhaust sounds good. Really it almost sounds stock, just a little more throaty. Just need to get the rear sway bar back on and we're back on the road at least for one run. I'm leaning more and more toward going ahead and yanking the engine. We'll see. Here's a video of the exhaust and a couple pictures.

Looking real good there Bob.
You're a good caretaker - leaving them better than you found them. If you ever get bored, I could drop off one or two of mine.

That rear axle did not get that rusty/pitted under that body tub.....springs look to be in similar condition...

So I am in the process of making a reproduction Delco Freedom battery for the Gold Car. Unlike older batteries, nobody makes a topper for the Delco Freedom batteries. Its sort of surprising, but that's the way it is. Roundport turned me onto the guy that runs the United Fbody website, and he's cracked the code and invested the time and money to make the parts you need to build a repop yourself. I got a setup from him and I am in the process...
Shifting gears, I also toyed around some today with what I'm going to do with the motor, and exchanged several emails today with SD Performance. I think I am going to get a set of reworked 6X heads from Dave, a correct W72 intake with CNC'd plenum and runners. I've seen a lot of recommendations for the 068 cam, but Dave seems to have a better secret recipe. We'll see. I haven't pulled the trigger.....yet... I've got a mess at the Hot Rod Garage, but the Gold Car is coming off the lift tomorrow and is going to get some road time. The weather is supposed to beautiful and I need to get the Black Car on the lift so the I can fluff it up some before taking it to the TA Nats. Here's a few early battery pictures. Hopefully I'll get some Gold Car pictures tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

So the Gold Car got back on the public roads today and it was nice. I swear this car has a soul...., and it is happy. You have to admit these cars have a pretty good life. A nice dry climate controlled garage, Pandora, and someone who loves them. I don't ask much of the cars. Start when I want you to, and smoke the tires when asked. This car is looking good.

The gold car appears to be on top of its game! Nice tire smoke too, kudos to ol' hot shoe Dave!

The Delco Freedom battery project is finished and it looks pretty sweet. I can't think of much I would change if I did it again and that's always a good thing. Burd of United Fbody had these pieces manufactured. He will be at the TA Nats with a booth and I think will have a few sets to sell. Here's the finished pictures. Right below is the original post and pictures of the parts before "assembly".

Battery looks like many I installed!! Great! On the cam, after reading Rockys HPP article on roller cams, and some consulting with him, Im going to use a roller cam, more bang for the buck, less wear on the engine, and if your heads are off, install the BBC screw in studs and youll be all set... I think you would be impressed...just make sure your cooling system is in top shape. I would also run a 160 Thermostat. if your going to burn more calories..
Good luck!!

I did have a nice surprise when I returned home. My custom license plate for the Gold Car arrived and it is pretty cool. One of the benefits of living in a backwoods "Burg" like WV is that most custom license plates are available. Especially ones related to Pontiacs. Here's the new plate...
