My motor is a '72 455 and has been running hotter than normal. I adjusted the timing to factory specs. Timing does not seem to be set correctly, advanced too far. I rotated the engine and located TDC with the #1 cylinder. The HEI rotor is pointing to the #1 cylinder. I assume that the notch on the harmonic balancer should be lined up with 0 on timing the cover. It is not even close to 0. Looks to be at least 6 degrees above where the timing marks begin on the cover. Just want to confirm that the Harmonic balancer rubber ring has slipped?
